View Full Version : Electronics for the Intrepid gasser

Guys,

I want to get me a gasser and I wonder what electronics you use in yours. I won't do any 3D, just slow, easy flight. Please post your setup: receiver, servos, gyro, governor, battery, switch. Also, what kind of redundancy systems are you using? I just hate the thought of a big flying lawnmower to get out of control because of a failed switch.

On my EB for AP...slow easy flight, too.

Redundancy? In failsafe, my AP2000i will help bring it down with stabilization. Not sure if that's what you mean.

My equipment:

JR 649SPCM receiver
JR 8311 servos for surfaces
Futaba 611 gyro with own rudder servo
Low cost standard servo for throttle
Futaba gv-1
JR 1400mah battery backup
Jewel on-board generator for main power

For power redundancy the jewel is the best choice in my opinion. Beats any battery pack because it offers unlimited power for the machine to fly and the battery is just for backup purposes in case the engine quits, otherwise its charging while you fly.

Is the Gemini a Power Box? It has some of the features of a power box but in miniature. Due to the fact that it is designed for helicopters and smaller aircraft it does not need pulse amplifiers. It does however offer 2 different voltages 5.9 volts for the servo's and 5.3 volts for the gyro. This is useful for helicopters and jets. It is capable of 15 amps or 7.5 amps per side. It has LED's for voltage monitoring It has a rugged purpose built failsafe switch with power on lights and low voltage warning strobe lights. It also has a low voltage memory the same as the Power Box.

I am interested in getting more data from the guys running the DX7's...I have one that I am planning on using in a prototype Bergen electric Observer EB I will be starting soon...

Does that Duralite gemini system even come with batteries, or do you have to spend $90 a battery x 2 as well:

What about the charger and the tester and the rest of the package that they sell you to maintain it all? Sounds like you might be looking at a system that is close to $400!

I prefer my system as there are no batteries to charge and maintain really (you can use a $15 battery, and you can go flying anytime anyday as long as you want!

Ciprian, I'm using:

JR 649S PCM receiver
3 JR DS8311 servos
JR 537 servo - throttle
GY401/9254
6V Duralite regulator
Duralite voltage step down
TBM 4-cell Li-Ion battery pack
Revolution base-loaded antenna

The 4-cell battery pack is like 2 2-cells for reduncancy there. I always checked my battery voltage before each flight so I would know if something funky is going on with my battery system. I'm also using a heavy duty switch. I don't use a governor, just a good throttle curve setup. With the help of Chris Bergen and Gary Travis, it was quite easy to pick up and understand how to tune and program the curves.
