Tony/Chris,

I am beginning to install the actro mount in my ION to put the 32-3 on it. I have the same white fan as shown in Tony's picture. The fan has a steel pin included in the package. Can you explain how the pin is used? I didn't see any hole in the pinion adapter or anything else for it.

Thanks,
bob

Hi Bob

The pin is to lock the fan to the pinion adaptor. When I assemble a whole conversion kit, I drill the hole in the adaptor and fan together so that the two will line up correctly. But when a fan goes out by itself, I just put the pin in the bag. The adaptor is easy to drill, just match up the fan to the adaptor and use a drill bit that will give you a light press fit. As always, use green loctite on these kinds of assemblies.

If you do not feel confortable with this, send it to me and I will drill it out and assemble it for you.

Yeh ,thanks Bobby cant wait , I just installed 27 of the standard steel bolts with titanium with real lite thin purple aluminum cups washers , motor is installed , now its time for the gear and battery mounts , canopy , might send that off to have it painted nice , OH and need to install a titanium feathering shaft
with all the titnium on there I bet I lost close to 3 to 4 ozs
main shaft , feathering shaft, and 27 bolts

hey , I would like to see some # compareing the older and the newer 32-3 , I dont think theres much different in power , with the meat ( steal )cut off like that seams to me that , that little bit of weight is more momenting on the older style , but the cooling seams better .

I too have an Actro 32-3 in each of my Ion's, one the older style and one the new style. The power is very similar in both but I notice that after say five minutes of hard flying, the open style motor is still running cool whereas the closed can motor is heating up. This leads to more power longer into the flight with the open can motor...

My $.02

Thats it
Chris sell Tony another ION that way he can compare the 2 motors..
Not much differance untill you get to the 5 minute mark thats when the open can 32-3 starts to shine :D less heat more Efficeincy

hey , well while waiting on a few things for the Ion , like the motor flange , found 2 steal ones for both my helis I
did a few things to the fury conversion this past week , changed out the aliminum battery mounts with carbon plate , beafed up the motor joker mount by adding a carbon plate and 4 titanium 5mm legs to help keep that motor from twisting , also got rid of the 10t logo short pinion and replaced it with the MA 10t fury gas stock pinion that has a 6 mm hole and put a tail slider brass 5mm ID and 6mm OD, and drilled a hole in the sleave for the setscrew to pass through for my 5mm titainum motor shaft . and had to drop the motor down a 1/4" for that mod , taitanium main shaft is installed, I added the TP prolites 13s3p , and a 40-160 schulze esc , so now my weight might be up around 11 pounds , dang controller weighes in at 7oz. and BIG still need to hook that up , and plugs for the batteries

well , Im still waiting on a flang , looks like I need to make my own , while waiting , I had a few sticks of 5.5 mm titanium rods, so I chucked them in the lathe and turned them down to 3mm and turned the ends down so I could put a 4-40 die to cut some threads , and drilled out the links to tap them down about half way and screwed them in nice and tight , so far I did 75% of the control rods and I bet I save about 15 to 20 grams , that might not be much , but they sure look nice , "a crome look", bigger like the heavy duty rods , and half is light , got to do 3 more.
got a canopy being painted , its going to rock , the fury will have the same paint job too , cant wait till they get done . 6 to 8 weeks , you know Im board if I turnng down 5mm to make control rods,

finally , its ready to fly , the actro that I bought for it is on its 3rd trip back for repairs, and never ran , boy dymond sure messed that motor up doing the repairs themselves, they sent it back to Kolher this time , but I do have a 32-3 used can in there, and now waiting on some sleep and test it in the gym this afternoon ,
still waiting on my custom painted canopy to come in , but I do have one that came off a proto Ion back in the day ,

well , more bad luck , went to do a test hover in the gym , and didnt make it to about 600 RPMs before the heli started to shimmy from side to side about every 2 seconds , cut off motor and she went into a violent shake from hell , didnt know a heli that could dance like that , so bad that it almost tiped over , boom strike , 3 servos wasted , 2 new 9252s and 1 9251 gyro servo , and set of mah tail blades ,
back to the the work shop , man I had everything centered , about -1 degree on the blades mid stick feathered, huh? Ill check out the tempest 3D head , maybe the fellow I bought it from didnt do something right , I will change it over to the Fury head while I do that , now I need to make a order,
