Hey guys,

The build has been going really well on my new Intrepid Gas. The linkage setup took a bit of time but I finally got +11 and -10 out of it. I broke the start dogs on the pull start when I started the motor up the 3rd time to check fuel flow, etc. Is that a common part to break. I think what I was doing was starting my pull before the dogs were engaged. New pull start on order so no test flights for a week or so.

My real question is about the FG canopy. The right hand cheek is resting against the V2 muffler. Do I have to cut the cheek away to totally clear the pipe or can I get away with putting some sort of heat proof material on there to protect the canopy?

Is anyone else running a MultiGov on there Intrepid Gasser, or a Zen 260? I put the sensor on as per Movel Avionics instructions for the RevMax and it is reading the magnet on the flywheel just fine. Bob Li of Aerospire suggested I may also have to adjust the sensitivity on the governor. Just wondering if anyone is using it.

I would clear the canopy from the muffler.

Mal designed the cheeks to fit around our "unobtainium" muffler, the V2 is much bigger in diameter, but shorter in overall length.

You should engage the dog before yanking on the cord, you can also get a "metal" replacement for the broken plastic piece in the pull start if you are prone to breaking them...

I would also leave the governor OFF for now until you get the engine broke in and tuned in properly. A governor can mask a mistuned engine, right up until it seizes....

Thanks for the reply Chris. I was told about the metal dog, just have to source them. You don't happen to know where to get one do you? Or anyone else?

I have the MultiGov off for now. As you stated, I need to have the engine broken in and tuned before using it. I just wanted to get the majority of things mounted now.

I've added pics of the build so far to my gallery. It would be nice to have some experienced eyes have a peek.

Cheers, Shayne

I'm certainly no expert but what I've spotted:

Tailboom clamps-2 upper bolts aren't into the nylon part of the locknut much.
I'd flip that antenna around. You've got it back in the nasty zone.
Antenna wire loose by frame. Could cut from contact.
Velcro on the gyro is a bit tight. It's compressing the foam on the R/H.
(nice Hughes fuse in the background, btw)
Ditto w/locknuts on the lower bearing block.

Just what I noticed before the site started sludging up. Couldn't view all.

Thanks Mark. I'll have a look at those items.
