is a gov. really needed

i was at my local field today talking to some of the heli guys and a few of them said i should consider a govenor. is it really nessesary when first starting out or could i skip it without it hurting my flying

No need for one at first. In fact it is a good idea to learn to set up throttle curves in case the governor decides to take a day off. It is a nice add on but it can wait a while.

Its worth the 80 or 90 bucks a decent governor costs but its not needed and as BT says, it helps to learn how to do it right to start with.
