I just changed to a brand new motor on the BCP today. When I went to power it up to do my first check I noticed that there were some small flames coming from the motor. Next thing you know a big flash of flame comes out of the motor along with a burnt smell and it comes to a dead stop. Thank God I disconnected the Lipo right away? After I removed the motor I did some checks to make sure the 4-1 wasn't blown, thankfully it wasn't. I now know for sure it was the motor and nothing else. I think it blew because of the re-oiling, I dunno?
Is it possible to short out a motor? Has anyone shorted out a motor?
:arggg: :?: :dontknow :arggg: :arggg:

I have shorted a 380 in a rc car before. Got a small piece of metal in it, fried the ESC and ruined the battery. But I never shorted it from oiling it. I even had motors running full throttle underwater before (on Ni-Cd packs) also in a car. It killed the motor but no short. Would it have been possible that a small screw or piece of paper clip gotten into it? I ask because at my workspace I have been using paper clip pieces for the pin that holds the head on the main shaft and I have to double check to make sure there is none laying around before I do any rc work or battery charging.

I am officially grounded. None of the LHS have any of the 8 tooth motors in stock this really suxs. I guess I have to wait until they restock them. I was thinking about going brushless but it looks complicated to setup on the Blade CP. I don't even know it its even worth spending that kinda of money on the blade in first place. Anyway this suxs. :arggg:

I had the same thoughts. I want to go brushless to avoid having to replace motors but really, whats the point? If I am gonna spend that kind of cash I might as well get a bigger/better heli.
I was thinking the blade used a 9T pinion. My HoneyBee does. Maybe you should just try that if they have them in stock. You should get a slightly higher head speed out of the deal too.

I forgot to mention the LHS is also out of the 9t motors as well as the 8, and the 11 tooth. The only thing is the 10tooth. I wondering if I could buy the 10 tooth and swap the pinions outs. Would that work or is the 10tooth motor completely different from the 8tooth?

No clue on that but you could try it. Just make sure you get a pinion puller while you are there. They are near impossible to get off without damaging the motor.

Motor is the same only the pinion is different. DO NOT SAW TEETH OFF THE PINION!!!!!!! Just get the 10 tooth motor. It'll work just fine for now.

Did the switch and it did the trick? 10tooth to an 8tooth. No problems so far I have even fuse protected the motor as well.

This is just an idea... but if you just got done oiling it, and got some oil on the commutator or brushes, especially if you used wd40 =P.... then the sparks that fly from the brushes to the commutator might have ignited the oil.
