Dear all,
I got a Futaba 6EXHP for my heli. The radio came w/o NiCa batteries and
also had no charger. I'm running now with AA batteries but want to switch
to rechargeable one's.
I have two questions:

Can I use a simple AC/DC converter to charge batteries within the
Futaba? What DC voltage (5V, 9.6V, ...)?

Any issue to use 8 rechargeable batteries. Every cell has 1.2V so
8 cells give me just 9.6V, right? The manual states that when
voltage drops below 9.4V then one must stop flying and recharge
batteries.

Thanks,
Uwe

I bought 2x GP Powerbank Travel chargers for mine. Each came with 4x2500mAh batteries and they charge them in about 4 hours I think.

Charging through the TX would take a lot longer, and at least the GP chargers have proper safety features (delta V etc).

Fully charged the batteries are more like 11 Volts.

NOBS batteries.... They can build you a NiMh pack that'll drop right in....

My Futaba T6EXHP came with a Sanyo /Futaba battery. Model # NT8F6008, 8 cell and it does charge to 11.1+ volts with the supplied charger. But it won't hold there long. Try to find a lipo that will fit inside the case and you will have 11.1v for much longer.

Iceman140,
The NT8F6008 is only a 600 ma battery. You can get a NiMh of the same size up to 2500 ma.

Thanks for the info. I posted that battery because that is the stock battery that comes with the radio and thus the dimensions for any larger or lipo you might want to put in. The stock battery is an exact fit and there is a plug in on my circuit board.

Yes there any many many. Beware cheap lipos. Saw one fail in a heli radio once. Not good. Lead me to believe you cannot have too many radios. But I supposed even having another on standby of the same channel, there might not be enough time to switch on the second in time to divert a crash. Airplane yes....heli maybe...leaning to no. :WOW

ps, Stock batt dimensions: 113 mm Long x 52 mm wide x 15mm thick.

What is the max voltage that a 9ch can take? A fully chatged 3s1p is 12.6, can the radio take this? All I can find in the manual is 9.6. I'v got a TP 2100 mAh that fits that I would be happy to implant into my radio.

Yes, dblrguy (http://www.helifreak.com/member.php?u=31960)

You can use fully charged 3s Lipo battery for your TX's power.
In Korea here, lots of people using lipo battery for their transmitter.

Good Luck.

Max voltage on alkaline cells is 1.58 so 8 cells = 12.64V. Since you can use alkalines you can safely use a 3s LiPo. The main disadvantage of using a lipo is that if you forget to turn your Tx off one time you will kill the lipo. I seem to forget to turn mine off about once every couple of months so I'm sticking to NiCd/NiMH.

sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead but i didn't want to create a whole new thread for a simple question

I just bought 2300mah nimh sanyo batts for my 6ex. I don't have a nimh charger yet but i've found an old nikko rc car-type charger.it outputs 9.6v dc in 250ma. Is it safe to charge my nimh in my tx with it? if yes, for how long?

i know this was the original question but none actually answered it :YeaBaby:

250 ma x 10 hour = 2500 mah.

10 hrs will be plenty of charge time. A nimh pack really needs to be cycled 3 or 4 times to reach its full capacity.

so its safe to charge it with the nikko charger?

Yes it will be fine. Nicad and nimh use the same type chargers basically.

for NiCD and NiMH th ebattery is only 1.2v each, with 8 fully charge in it, it seems like low battery on the indicator....so which brand r u using...i m using GP

for Lipos , do i need to modified so that the Lipo will connect to the radio...

Fully charged NiXx are closer to 1.4V but if the Tx won't tolerate them and work down to 9.6V then IMO it is badly designed.

TO BRO KG FLY...

thanks for ur reply....did what u said n the power is ok so far...

the other day i tried to use the esky balance charger and plug directly to into the transmitter, i think that is the reason why my batteries wont charge....

If I understand what you describe you tried to use an Esky LiPo charger to charge the NiXx batteries in your Tx ? If that is right I am not suprised it didn't work.
