Helo pilots.

After reading several threads on this forum, trying to learn how to fly a 6ch, I start training in a simulator.

After some work, I decided to start with fly at open area.

Theses are a few action shots from my 3rd flight.

:)

Btw. This heli is just awsome. And fly like the big ones.

I hope that my V120d02 will fly so nice one day

By the way, is the V120d05 flybarless/receiver module better than the one from v120d02?I heard that the one from 4F200 is better.

Cara,

:)

English:
Dude,

I do not have much experience to advise you about it. I left a 4-channel direct for this 6-channel. I trained for 3 months in the simulator and the photos were taken on my third flight. The gyro is really perfect, but tail really is not very fast. If you increase the rpm the response is much better and holds better in throttle kicks.

Maybe not the most suitable for extreme 3D, but is excellent for speed and agile flight. Well trimmed and set is extremely stable and responds perfect to commands.

So far I can only point out two flaws: It's a bit annoying to find the center of gravity, because the tail is a little heavy. You have to position the battery well. And second, the landing skid is just too weak, break easily. Apart from that, it's a tank. Flying over lawn is almost indestructible. A crash is not enough to spoil even the blades that are made from hardened foam. With 900mah battery I can fly about 8 minutes, which I consider excellent.

I rate 9.5. I know people will crucify me. :rotf

But if your concern is the tail behavior, look at the m120d01.

I recommend and would buy another v120d05 if needed. When he starts to fly, everyone stops to see him and are amazed. And if you're buying, spend a little more with 2801pro tx. Is really good and you can configure all the helicopter through the tx.

Thanks, its Photoshop 7 (very old version). I did an unsharp mask to sharpen and curves. On the curves (control M), I use two points on the graph, one high and one low to adjust the exposure.

I just bought the v120d05 with 2801 for the same reasons. I like the belt, the shaft tail on my two other walkera minis isbt too bad, but wanted to try something different. I don't do 3d but like to sport fly aggressively and the 05 seems strong and stable. I also think that with the mods available it is excellent for everything but extreme 3d. I also figured if it eventually felt underpowered and my skills warranted, there are plenty of reasonably priced monster motors!

I agree with you helimaniac88!

V120d05 is a sweet machine. It can flies pretty fast and incredible stable. And belt driven is not that bad. At least for me.

I start training 6ch heli in this one. So you can imagine how many crashes i did. I can tell you. Its strong, very strong.

I still point one flaw. Landing skids too weak.

Do you know any mod to landing skids to this v120d05?

When I use storm 20c batteries the bird have more power, flight last longer and headspeed is higher since take off. Its a nice battery, much better than the stock one.

Btw, the new stock landing skids are coming with a battery limiter at the end. I think is to force you to put battery a little more to the front (around 1cm) and helps the cg problem... Anyway, its a impressive heli and the all-in-one receiver is very good. You can change the whole heli behavior just turning a few pots.

I just got the 05, but have a d01. The pots do a lot to the behavior of the heli. Take a picture before touching anything. Small moves and only 1 pot at a time!. I am going to see if I can modify a set of extreme lg for other v series. To be honest I really don't like the battery holder in the 05 lg. I have to put the stock batteries in from the FRONT. Not sure if this is correct but they didn't seem to fit the way the other v120 heli batteries go. I just flew it a second, the tail blades came bent badly so even with bending them back they were not perfect. Helidirect sent out a new set right away no questions asked. I order from them, club heli, and wow normally for walkera stuff. All three are good but heli direct and club heli are fastest. Anyone do any of the mods for the tail yet? I will wait before trying any to see how it is. I have a v120d01 and 4#6 and though they have been reliable and really have given me few problems (keeping the main gear/small tail drive

Oops ... Continued,
Gear Well lubes keeps the gears from stripping almost 100%). I think the 05's extra mass and bigger motor makes it a bit more stable platform for sport flying and probably mild 3d. I think that it looks awesome also. If I do hot rod it out some time the belt drive has more power handling potential. I don't mind running higher head speed /lower pitch to keep the tail spinning fast enough, this tends to give more stable response anyway. Let keep each other posted on any possible tail issues and tips each other use to help it, I'm sure if there are any they should be fairly easy to resolve.

So, do you lug the main gear?

What do you use to lube it?

Silicone grease?

And you are right, battery is loaded in from the front. And you need to remove the canopy. The 4g6 and v100d01 you load in from the back. I am pretty sure they made it with this orientation to force you to leave the battery to the front as much as possible due tail heavy....

Like I said before, if you buy a new LG, it comes with a new battery limiter on the end. So, now, battery stays 1cm plus to the front than stock landing skids. Much better CG balance. Bad news is that I had to make two new little holes in the canopy, 5mm away than stock holes and put new rubber rings to wear the canopy without making that little carbon rod pin (the one that locks the servos holder) forcing in "U" shape.... In other hand, now v120d05 is 1cm longer... ROFL :)

I have tried a few different products for luging the gears. I put a dab of regular lithium grease for auto use on the little gear before putting main gear on, then lightly lube around the main gear and pinion. Because it worked so well and I didn't have to change the gears for so long I occasionally spray a bit of silicone lube through the side of the main gear so I know it gets in to the small gear underneath. I also keep the rear gear lubes, though these usually are not a problem. I wanted to use a 46 canopy until I was comfortable on the 05 and found if I cut the slits out 2here the lg go through the canopy on the bottom it actually works well, no need to make new holes! Give that a try. I have a replacement lg at home, I have to look to see if it has the battery stop, I do not see one ostock lg. They make it so damn tight though to fit even stock battery in! It seems that the wrapping of the lipo gets caught all the time. I hate it!
My little swash phasing thing broke on second flight just the other day. I keep reading how crappy they are but that was ridiculous. Any mods to help that? I ordered the microhelli today.
I ordered a v120d02 from xheli also.....the addiction continues! I just could not pass up $139.99 from xheli. They seem to be stocking less and less stuffs I don't order too much from them. I was looking at the costs of converting my 4#6 to a d02 and added it up, made more sense too just buy new one. Not sure how come they sell that one solo cheap, no one could match price. I'm going to practice with the 02 and mod up the 05 as my muscle mini.
Any one put any thought into motor upgrade?
Lots of threads on best motor for the 02 but not too much on 05.
I'm actually a bit confused. The new spin motors seem great, the 16400 and now the new 14000 kv. From what I read the new 14000 is more powerful than the 16400kv. Supposedly they both make more power than hp08s. I also see the wow 12g motor but have not read much and don't feel like buying one and finding out the version two is the one that really works if I waited!
What I wonder is if any of the old faithfull 1s v120d02 upgrade motors will be big improvement over new stock out runner? I like that they weigh less than stock motors, anyone know if they put out more real power? I don't want to go to 2s if I don't have too. Mind you I don't even fly 3d, just want to own a rad micro that can jump 20 feet instantly on a pitch pump!!!!! I just think it's cool to have the power. Then I can maybe try to find a way to mod my v120d01 or the 02 I have coming with the 05 stock motor, I think there is some frame modification and an esc change to make that work. Anyway if anyone has recommendations for best upgrade d05 motor 1s stock esc let me know. I was going to start new thread but figured while I'm here writing

Thats some nice flyin!!!! I love how close to the water you come. That takes nerve! I know the thing is stable but wow! how long you been flying cp? what else you fly? Love the shots, keep them comming. Any tips, obsevations, or mods? I dont see a dedicated v120d05 thread active, since weve all been flying this lets try to keep each other updated. I ordered a few new upgrade parts. The swash phase links from microhelli and the tail slider from microhelli are on their way. Also just got in a bunch of 600mah zippy batts last night from hk. my first time soldering and wrapping my own. I did two last night and tested one on my eflite sr120. These batts are awesome. They are also sooo cheap. They definitely dont fit the battery slot so I am going to have to mod that. They are significantly wider. Thinking of modifying my spare LG, cutting out the side where the batteries go, reinforcing above and below with 1mm ccf rod, maybe a bit of extra reinforcment on the front to compensate for the cut out section, and then I could probably still use the regular batts or my new zippies. If the stocks dont fit well after I can still switch betweeen the stock and modified battery frame lg setup pretty easily. Any suggestions?

I'm very tempted to buy this helicopter as my mess-about with bird. I'm about to give up on my older V120D02 Extreme Productions version that I've been working on past few months. Plus, I've got the scale version so don't really need two, but this one is very tempting.

Thanks for the awesome pictures, it's giving me more to think about.

Hello helimaniac88

I am a newbie pilot. I am flying for 5 months now and did only 4 or 5 outdoor flying. I can tell you, I did a lot of simulator, clearview. Its awsome and really can teach how to put that thing in the air. Now I can do FF flights with no problem. This little bee fly like the big ones.

I also have a v450d01 and a v100d01.

V450d01 is a dream, damn stable heli, its impressive.

v100d01 is a fixed pitch heli. But i dont recommend it. Its harder to fly than 120d05 in my opinion. Not stable enough and have a bad habit to put nose down or up when use rudder, making it harder to fly. I can tell, if you master this v100d01, the v120d05 is a piece of cake. ROFL.

I agree we should have our own topic to v120d05. Its a damn good heli.

So far, I have beem using theses batteries. Very good and you get more headspeed and flight time than the stock ones:

http://www.helipal.com/storm-3-7v-900mah-20c-lipo-battery-pack.html

its built for the v120d05 and fits perfect.

My damages so far its only foam blades and two pitch servos and some lading skids.

I manage to improve landing skids durability realeasing a little bit the pressure over that rod that connect tail to landing skids. After that, I didnt loose any more skids.

My last damaged blade was during flight. A damn bug good smashed in a middle of a FF banked curve. The bugs gut painted the blades and make a hole where it hited. Poor bug. After that, i had some vibration and had to change it because was messing with gyros...

I highly recommend this heli and if you train over grass a crash results in almost nothing.

:)

I think you need to change the tx setup to a 2801 radio, on the menu. Then you will have the full settings. Do the adjustments and put your radio back...

It may work. :peace

The stock settings pitch curves works pretty good. I have been changing a little bit.

What you can do to increase the stability is put a little more headspeed. Works like a charm. This heli is a little wooby with low headspeed.

I think you wont regret, at least if you dont plan do to a hardcore 3d.

This heli, correctly adjusted, fly smooth and its pretty reliable. 2801 pro radio is very very good and a must have. I have been watching people using the dx6 at my flight spot and loosing connection several times and crashing helis and planes. I have never loosed any connection so far, not even with low batteries.. :)

And the belt driven tail, at least in my opinion, works for the best. Crash proof! :)
