View Full Version : Is 370 a bad motor?

My Honeybee CP2, which I have had for a couple of months has had 3 new 370 motors. Only minimal garage hovering flight time with no crashes until Sunday (see IDLE up=CRASH post). Wondering what others experience with these same motors. Interestingly I am still using the original tail motor even though I ordered a spare!

you seem to be doing the reverse of everyone else :D . I have a blade cp (same as honeybee) and i'm going though like two or three tail motors before the main motor goes.

As for hovering if you are not using heat sinks, or the motor is not getting any air that will kill the brushes and magnets.

Not saying this will allow the motors to last longer, but get the motor some air (take off the canopy) and put some heat sinks on the main motor. Save the canopy for out side flight.

Also what might help is when you put in the new motor, run it at 1/3 power for like 10 min to gently break in the brushes. I would say that 2 flights after that take it easy, but because you are hovering, that is easy enough.

hope this helps!!

Thanks, I used 2 heatsinks on my last motor and it did ok till the crash. I did not break any of them in though. I just seems that the 370s are weak compared to the dual motors in my BCX which are still original with tons of indoor/outdoor time. Anyway, if 4 in 1 is still good will buy another 370 ($8) and break it in. If 4 in 1 dead I will just continue to wait for my T-Rex V2 which is tied up in customs!

ps. I have a new G3.5 sim and my real heli is much easier to fly than even the .90 birds. I am disappointed with the sim, maybe it is just my computer is too slow!

Is there a difference btwn Eflite's 370 motor and Esky's 370 motor. Does one last longer or what or are they the same.

They are the same motor. Have never had one burn out. I'm now using the Esky "super" 370 from a HB King in my CPpro...its a lot moe powerful, but runs very hot. But, its like a supercharged CPP.

How does that "super" 370 compare to a BL main?

You might want to check the gear mesh, If you are mounting the motor too close to the gears it will put a lot of strain on the motor.

They can ingest dirt and fail early. I remember my father hovering his Xcell 50 in a driveway. He destroyed the piston and liner in one afternoon due to dirt. Our electric motors can be damaged in the same way. I would even venture to say that brushed motors are more susceptible to dirt due to the brushes being damaged.
All brushed motors will give out early if they are stalled. I suspect that stalling the motor is the reason some tail motors fail early.
