View Full Version : Weird power loss problem with my CP???

My CP has this weird power loss problem. It's like something blocks it from getting up to full rpm, and then occasionally it kicks into full power. If I have it in normal mode, at full throttle, it lacks power and seems to be running at about 2/3 of rpm. If I go into collective pictch mode, and toggle the throttle/pitch control up and down a bunch of times, it will suddenly jump up by a few hundred rpm, and have full power again. I can throw the switch back to normal mode and now it has the full power still, till I throttle down. Then if I rev it up (still in normal mode), it might go back to full rpms or it might not.

I know it sounds a lot like a sticky collective, but I don't see any problems there. I have pulled it apart and checked it all. Put the washers in the right way (steps toward bearings). The blade holders all move freely. Same with the swashplate moving up and down the main shaft. Seems to be no binding there at all. Blade pitch is correct. 0 degrees at center throttle in collective pitch mode. Blades seem to be moving up and down in pitch correctly. Motor is moving correct direction. Gear lash looks good.

I have even "tapped" on the 4 in 1 lightly, and the main motor as well, while the thing was running at WOT in the hopes that there might be some weird electrical loose connection and that it might jump up in the rpm. It didn't.

So there it is. Can't fly it the way it is. Any suggestions here???
Thanks,

Also curious. Does anyone know the shaft diameter of the main motor. If I can't sort out the above problem, I'm gonna turf everything electric in it, and go brushless. Just wondering what the diameter of the main shaft is for the pinion gear.

Sounds like your motor is done for. Mine dropped in RPM when it died but it didnt randomly go back to full power.

I'll give changing the main motor a try. Thanks for the info.
