View Full Version : Screws for servo tray?

Just wondering what screws you guys used if you have HS65s. The screws that came with the servos don't seem to be big enough to hold them down. I have a bag labeled KP7, which I don't see listed anywhere in the manual, that has a bunch of screws and what not in it...are they in there?

Also I have two bearings left over in a bag labeled KP3, anybody remember where those went?

Hi MikeWZ,

Are these the same size as the Hitec 65 MG (looks like it to me), or is it a complete other servo?
I'm picking them up tomorrow together with my mini raptor kit (excited like a 10 year old  ).
Either way I'll ask the shop owner to make sure they will fit, would make me very sad if i get stuck during the build.
Not intended, but knowing myself, most likely it will be a marathon weekend build.
I'll let you know if other (longer)screws are needed.

Eric,
yes, those are the exact servos I have. You're going to have to grind down the servo trays a bit...but it's nothing difficult at all. Takes about 5-10 minutes to do all three with a dremel.
It's not that the screws aren't long enough, it's that they're not wide enough. I think I'll just cut off a part of an extra servo arms and screw it into that, using it as a clamp.

Anyone have any idea what the bearings in bag "KP3" are for?

I run a 2-56 tap through the servo mounts and used a socket head cap screw.

Ah,
That's the problem, both solutions sound good.
The shop owner told me that those servo's were the best pick for the swash atm so...
thanks for the info!

Hi,
Ready with building the heli! (working on the electrics/settings now)
Good thing i knew that the servo trays needed to be modified, you have to make the gap a couple of mm wither with a dremel or file to make these servo's fit, the holes line up perfectly.
I could do it before fitting the pitch and aileron mount to the heli.
And working on the elevator servo mount is highly recommended before installing the Rotor in your heli.
Once it's in you have little space to work with.

Btw.
The bearings in KP3 are spare parts IMO, together with some other stuff.
It's ready and I also have some things left, double checked it. :)

Hi All,

I've just started assembling an ARF Mini Titan and I've filed out the servo mounts to fit the HS65HBs. I'd already discovered that the Hitec mounting screws were too small so I'll follow some of the previous suggestions.

However, the HS65s seem to be too long to fit into the side servo trays - ie the back of the servos contact the main frame and prevent the servo mounting brackets from fitting flush against the servo trays. The manual shows what appear to be rubber grommets (like Futaba 9252s) which would probably push the servos away from the frame far enough to solve this problem but the HS65s don't come with grommets (probably because of the tiny size of the mounting holes.) and there aren't any in the kit as you might expect given the different types of servos.

Am I missing something obvious here? And am I supposed to mount the servos directly to the frame - ie no vibration isolation of any kind?

Thanks,
Paul.
