View Full Version : Want more cyclic speed for faster flips.

I set my Stinger 50 up with 6.5 degrees cyclic pitch and it seems a bit slow flipping. How much should I increase it? Up to 7.5 or 8 degrees?

How big a difference would lighter paddles make?

The stock paddles weigh a ton and are great for learning to fly and basic aerobatics.
Lighter paddles will make a big difference. I am using the Gohbee carbon paddles and like them better than the TT greens that I was running.

I set my cyclic to as much as I can get with the stick in the corner.

I recommend making just one change at a time to be able to tell what made what difference.

I bumped the cyclic to 7.5 degrees last night, I'll fly it like that until I get my GV-1 on. Probably go ahead and order a set of the light paddles to have on hand.

Thanks, Alan

Both will increase your rate to a point. Going too far on the cyclic throw will just bog the engine at full stick.

Forgot to mention, Head speed has a big effect on cyclic speed to.
If you have Carbon blades the Stinger likes a 2000 headspeed.
Keep woodies to under 1850.

I'm using MAH Carbons, I'll think I'll set Idle 1 to 1850 and Idle 2 to 1950 or 2000.

Thanks, Alan

Sounds good.
I really like the MAH carbons on my Stinger 50.

Much better at 7.5 degrees! :D

Now if my governor would hurry up and get here I'll be in a happy camper. :smokin:

Dude , it sounds like you're havin' an absolute blast !! Good stuff! I like the response I get out of the carbon paddles that gohbee carries. 13g , very light.

To get a little quicker role rate you can screw your paddles in further!

I notice you use the Blue Birds, OOC? Just picked up 2 to try. Not sure though for not much more I can have the 6965's Hitec. I like the heat sink and the bands around control arm, but ,,,, how do you like them? Sorry to hijack :( but curious.

OK, MUCH better with the Gov and running 1850 HS!

I wouldn't even think about not flying without a gov. now, very nice indeed.

I'll fly it like this a while, a bit later I'm going to try a set of MA paddles with a bit less cyclic.

Hehe yep. I flew for years w/o a governor. I bought a used EVO and it came with one and the day I flew it the first time I was litterally on the phone with Ricks on the way home from the field ordering one for the rest of my birds.

The only lesson I nearly learned the hard way was to tie the governor to the flight mode switch, I had it on a separate switch and my ears heard 1950 so my thumbs said "good to go for inverted", whoops.

Sounds like you are on the right track now.

Yep, I started out setting up an on off switch but quickly figured out that I was asking for trouble!

So it's all on the flight mode switch now.

Added my 92mm V blades last night.

I shall remember the Golden Rule. :D
