I know the 7 is better but is it worth $150 more than the dx6 if your only going to have 2-3 helis?
Does the 7 really have that many more heli specific features?

I would ONLY recommend the DX7 for heli applications, not even because of the features the radio offers, but because they had changed the technology since the DX6.
I've never flown with it, but the DX6 is supposed to have a noticable 'lag' between when a stick is thrown, and when the servo reacts. The DX7 process the signal EXTREMELY quickly, and will not give you that same problem. With a DX6 you would have to think further ahead of the heli to compensate for the slowed response. Since you're looking to buy a new TX don't worry about the $150, because you'll regret not spending the money later, and still have all that money tied up in the DX6.
It's not even that's it's worth the extra $150, I just plain wouldn't fly with a DX6.
If money is an issue, you can get a nice radio for less (Maybe a Futaba 72mhz), but if you're going to stick with this hobby, I'm VERY happy with my DX7.
On a side note, you're going to have to pick up a AR6100 receiver for the Blade if you want to run it with the DX7. I have the AR7000 in my T-Rex, and most people say it's a lot of receiver for that heli. The 7000 would be way too big for a Blade.

Cool thanks for the info. I was having problems with my servos after getting rid of the 3-1 so I was going to get a new TX,RX to see if it would help. I didn't want to buy another blade 4-1 so I figured I'd upgrade to something I could use later on. Apparently gremlins snuck into my apartment and were messing with my wires in the wee hours of the morning. I ran by Bigfoot's house to borrow his motion sensing security camera but, apparently Locky is using it to thwart her majesties navy. :arggg: So, I'll save up for the DX7 and keep you guy's posted on the gremlins. If any of you are interested in helping capture these pesky little creatures I have figured out a formula that will assist in there apprehension:
Gremlin Bait Recipe.
1. Add a healthy dash of noob
2. Stir in a RC helicopter continually calling to its owner "FLY ME FLY ME!!"
3. A pinch of a very simple issue ( add issue of your choice to taste )
4. Ponder and tinker with these ingredients until 2am.
5. Close one eye while pretending to sleep and stew.

I have the DX7 and am slowly getting it set up for my frankenchopper.
I also picked up a RTF foamy plank, and got the DX set up for that as well.
With Jermo's video as well as the directions, it really is a powerful (and fairly easy) Tx.
If you can, look for someone that will sell it with the 6100 (and maybe no servoes?) and that could cut your cost a bunch.
I got mine from Tech-mp.com and Joe over there is VERY well liked here at HF. He might be able to get you a good/cheaper setup.

The DX7 is definately worth the extra money. It has a lot more options, the menus are set up much better, no lag, better feel, etc, etc. I have a DX6 that I bought and stripped the spectrum module from to put into another radio (JR 6102) which is almost identical to the DX7 except for a few options. The 2 controllers can barely be compared, I wouldn't want to fly a heli with the DX6.... but it can be done.

You can get the DX7 transmitter only for alot cheaper than a whole radio system. Comes with the TX and Charger only, no servos, no receiver, no battery pack for the receiver.

Good to see that most everyone agrees that the DX7 is a lot better. I have on one it's way and was kinda reluctant to order it sense the DX6 was about half the price. All-in-all I just decided if I was going to spend the cash I had better get the better of the two. Glad to see I made the right decision. Now I have to do some searching around these forums to figure out how to properly set it up with my CPP.

Never seen one sold w/o the servos and AR7000. What is the AR7000 designed for? 600 class helis and large planes?

ahhh, just went on e-bay and there are a few for sale w/o servos and AR7000. Probably just sold each individually to make some cash.

I use the DX6 on my HDX450SE, no problems at all but I've had the radio for a year, got it for RC Sailing and indoor slowflying.
I don't notice any "lag" at all, its better than my CPPro radios. Its on a par with my CX2 radio (DSM2).
Programming is clunky but works for me. Its now older technology but way ahead of specific frequency radios. Big problem is that DX6 receivers for extra models are now hard to find, everyone is selling only DX7 gear.
So for me, extra $$ that DX7 costs would be better spent on good servos/gyro. Depends on your budget I guess. But I sense DX6 will be dying out soon. If you can get one real cheap, its still an option.

I got some info from the Trex 450 page that Grand RC sells the DX7 TX by itself, no servosand no RX for $229. Sa Weet ! (And to think I almost bought a Futuba 6EX for $199)

I'm using a DX7. Since I am using a 4200kv brushless motor with a 10T pinion, I can't do without the 5 point curve adjustments.
I haven't tried using a DX6 but I find the DX7 an excellent radio for micros. I'm using an AR6100 so things are pretty light on my heli.
Once I understood what settings mean, the programming was pretty intuitive. The heli felt totally different was was just so pleasant to fly. I think precision is the operative word.
