Hi,

I have been struggling for a week or so trying hit and miss to set up my Swift for AP work. Here is my current setup:

Swift 16 using CNC head, 550 carbon blades
Phoenix 85HV (all default settings for programming)
Z30A-800, 9T pinion
TrueRC 8S1P (10C) 4000mah
Futaba 7C
Askman Medium Heli PAN AP system
Canon A640

Normal Mode
TH CRV: 0,30,60,70,80
PI CRV: 25,37,50,71,92 (gives me -4,+10.5)

I only fly the AP setup in normal mode at this point (not idle up).

Here are the main weight break downs:

AUW Full system: 157.05oz, 9.81 lbs
AUW Heli/battery:102.55oz/6.4lbs
AUW Camera/mount: 54.5oz/3.4lbs

I seem to be getting around 9+ minutes of flight with the full setup depending on where my throttle curve is set. At the end of almost every flight the motor is cutting out (NOT GOOD). When I land the ESC is blinking 4 flashes followed by a pause. I looked at the instructions that came with the Phoenix and I do not see any explanation of flashes after a flight. The ESC is barely even warm, the Z30A-800 is hot and the battery is hot. I do not have a temperature probe so I cannot say exactly what the temp is. I can hold them but they are hot to hold. I am consistently replacing 3600+ mah back in the batteries when recharging. This leaves 10% or less in the battery which I know I cannot keep doing. My biggest issue at this point is not necessarily the run time, I know 9+ minutes is good for this much weight. The issue I guess is why is the motor/ESC cutting out? Is it a low voltage cut-off? Is is the motor/battery getting too hot as a result of amp draw? I do not know and am not sure how to determine this. I know I can reduce the amount of time I am flying, but based on what I have seen others posting I have been expecting to get flights in the 10 minute range without the cut-out issues. I cannot risk another auto-rotate from 50 feet with a full AP payload. Hogster on RCGroups calculated I am probably pulling around 21A (I think I may be pulling more than that).

thank you,
Mark

This thread http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=21573&highlight=hv85+settings has some good settings for the HV85. It could be the low voltage giving you a cut-out. I've followed Gary's advice and disabled the low voltage cut-out on my HV85.

If you're putting 3600 maH back into the packs for 9 minutes of flight, you're probably pulling more like 23 amps or so.

What is your battery voltage when you land? You may be pulling the packs to where they're almost totally discharged.

sorry, I forgot to include the voltages...

Voltage just after the flight when the battery is hot is 27.6V.

Voltage after cool down (ambient temp) is 28.1V.

At 3V/cell (24 volts), it seems I am ok there... but maybe not. I am not sure what the voltage is at the end of the flight under load.
