I am useing the JR HH gyro in my hawk now but I am going to need another for my R50. My question is which gyro are you useing and why?? I read guys love the futaba and some love the JR. I have never had any trouble with my JR and I have a high speed servo with it. I fly only in HH mode.. Thank you all..Alan

If you dont mind spending the money, the Futaba GY601 is the best gyro available today. If you want something cheaper, go with a GY401 with a 9254 servo. The JR 500T/8700G combo is nice too, but the price is too close to a 601.

What about the 502 with 9254? Is there any reason to try this one...or should one go from the 401 up to the best...the 601?

The 502 is a nice gyro. Ben Minor used it flying in competitions for a season. For someone that wants some of the features of the GY 601 for less money. Then the 502 is the way to go. With the 9254 servo now, it only has a few ounces less of torque than the 9251 that works with the GY 601. The biggest difference between the GY 601 and GY 502 is the update rate that it sends to the servo. The GY 601 is nearly twice as fast the GY 502 in that catergory.

That sounds like extreme performance...would I really want it? (Notice I didn't say "need" it. ) My goal: to get DANG good. The path I want to take: the best! Would I feel the difference in those rates? I'm only acquainted with the 401 right now.

401/9254 is good combo
502/9254 is better combo
601/9251 is ultimate combo <G>
Use the 401 till you feel like the gyro is holding you back from progressing your skills. Then make a decision what you want. I have set up many GY 401/9253-54 combos. They have all worked well.

I did go with the 500T and so far it is great and what a hold WOW. I suppose if I was flying a 90 size I would use the 601 but I am pleased with what I have now.. Alan
