Hello all.

I am new to this forum but, from what I have read, looks like I can get a little help here. I am also new to helicopter flying. Have a Blade CX 2 which is a miracle, IMO and actually flyable by a beginner.

Am working on my first single rotor heli now. Someone gave me a bare bones ESky Cool kit. Nice! So far I am, I think, doing OK with the installation etc.

Have a question I have not been able to figure out or find an answer to, however. I have a 40 AMP EFlite BEC/ESC. According to what I read, it should plug into the throttle position on the AR 7000. but, when I do that, the receiver does not power up. If I plug it into the power pllug, the receiver powers up OK. But I suspect that the ESC won't get proper info to set the throttle on the motor.

Without having to load two battery sets on the bird, how do I get power to the receiver? There is only one plug from the ESC. I can, of course, add a plug, if that is the solution.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Paul

It should indeed power the receiver when plugged into the Throttle port.

Do you have a RX battery? Perhaps the one that came with your DX7? Charge it and plug it into the various ports. The receiver should power up (blinking lights, assuming the TX is off) with the battery plugged into ANY (try each/every) port.

thanks for the fast reply. Gosh! I'll try what you suggest and see what happens. My DX 7 is/was in for repair so I am somewhat limited on what I can do to test the setup. I was under the impression that the receiver should get power through the throttle connection as well as the power connection. Now to find out why it appears not to be OK for me. May well be that the receiver, which is currently NOT bound, needs to be bound first.

Anyway, you have given me a direction to test and I really appreciate that!

Danal:

OK. Did the check with the original battery pack. Nothing happens. It will power the receiver from the power plug but not from any of the servo etc. plugs.

I think I read somewhere that the receiver will not work unless it is bound to a transmitter. After that it seems not to matter if the TX is on or not. I checked the battery pack with the Blade CX2 receiver and it comes right up and runs without the TX running.

It was well worth the test, however. When the DX 7 gets back here I'll know for sure if my suspicions are correct.

We'll keep plugging >>>grin<<< and, hopefully, flying too!

Got it! Turns out you were right, Danal, the throttle plug does indeed power the reciever just as it should. The problem was that the receiver was not yet bound to a transmitter and, therefore, simply shut everything down ... well, maybe not everything buy enouth so it appeared not to work.

The DX 7 returned today. First thing I did was set up the heli I have been working on. Bingo, once it was bound everything works just fine.

Next I have to figure out what plug ports I have to use for the gyro. Thought I had that resolved but, of course, the TX comes back all back to original settings. Oh well, I'll dope it out!

Again, thanks Danal. You were a huge hellp!

Cool!

By the way, there are a couple of ways to set up the Gyro. They all work, so it's pretty much personal preference... Me, I like the "CH5(Gear)" method with the switch overriden to be on the right side (of a Mode 2 Heli DX7). Do some searches, you'll find several setup options.

Danal:

Thanks for the note on the Gyro. I have it set up on AUX 2 at the moment but that is not necessarily a final set up. I'll do some more research too. Seems to me there's a video here on setting up the DX 7 that deals with that issue some too.

One other note... It turns out that a whole lot of the problem I was having getting the receiver set up etc could be traced to a jammed servo. I had ordered 4 new micro servos from XHeli and, unfortunately, I did not test them prior to installing them. Took me a while to figure why the Receiver was turning off when the throttle stick was advanced. Replaced the servo (with one not quite as small, unfortunately) and everything is exactly as it should be. Sometimes finding the problem with these electronic gadgets is 3/4 of the battle >>>grin<<<

Thank you again for your help.
