I have been digging through the garage.

I have found, in boxes, several old radios that I would like to resurect:

A Sanwa Black Custom Helicopter Radio on Ham Band.

A Futaba FG series transmitter.

Three JR (labled Circus Hobbies) Century Helicopter transmitters and one Century Airplane transmitter.

Is it still legal to fly on the HAM Band (53 Mhz) as long as one has a HAM license?

The Futaba FG has an AM module in it-can I just substitute a modern FM module (Futaba or Hitec)?

I have spare, new transmitter batteries (recently purchased) and I have modern radios to use as well, I am just interested in trying to get some of these going again.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

Yes with an amatuer radio license, 53 mhz and 50 mhz are still in use.

The FG I seriously doubt you will find a modern module that will work in it. The module in the FG is larger than the current Futaba modules. Your only hope would be to find someone that had there FG converted to 1991 specs(narrow banded) and maybe wants to sell just the module.

David,

Thank you for the response.

Any idea about the PIN assignments on current vs. old Futaba modules?

No idea about the pin assigments. Not even sure the pin arrangement is the same on the old module and newer module. The older Futaba module is about 50% larger than the current Futaba TX module in use. You can contact Radio South. Tony and Ben at RS can tell you if it is worth risking with the Futaba FG. They did the update on many FG radios back in the early 90's to make them 91 specs and narrow band.
