I’ve recently become hooked on RC helicopters. My first purchase was an E-flite BCX2 and I’ve loved every minute of it. Well, not all the lower rotors I went through waiting for the CNC part, but I’ve definitely been hooked. I’m looking forward to the substantial challenge of learning how to build and fly the next class of helis. I’ve been trolling the forums looking for a good setup for my foray into the mini space and my question is whether the following setup makes sense. That is, will all these parts work together or am I missing anything:
Heli - Align T-REX 450SEV2 Kit
Receiver - AR6100
Gyro - GY401 Gyro (w/S9254 for tail)
Servos - HS-65MG x3
Motor - 430XL (in kit)
ESC - BL35X (in kit)
Tx - DX7
LiPo - MEGA POWER Li-Po Battery 2200mAH 18C 11 & Align 3S1P 11.1V 2100mAh/22C

Another question is whether I can use my e-flite charger for these lipos. The charger I have says 2-3 cell 7.4-11.1V lipo balancing charger, output 0.65A. I’m ignoring the whole page of warnings in the manual about using “other” batteries for now. :roll:

Futaba 9650 or JR9400G for tail rotor are better choices but cost more.
LiPo alarm L.E.D. or audible
Gorilla Gear
Get a much better Li-Po charger with built in balancer or external balancer.
If you really have the bug .... and are even remotely considering a Trex 600 in your future .... spend the money and get a really good Li-Po charger and balancer .... oh .... and don't forget the 12 V power supply.

No, you don't want to use the E-Flight charger. I reccomend an e-station BC-6.

There's no particular reason to buy the AR6100, unless you're buying the radio system as seperates rather than the kit. The reciever that comes with the DX7 works just fine. Other then that, what you have listed will all work together very well.

You'll want at least 3 batteries if your flying will happen in "bursts" (as most of us do).

Budget a fairly significant amount of money ($100-250) for spares and buy them in advance. In particular, blades, main shafts, feathering shafts, booms, and landing gear (if you don't get the Gorilla Gear).

You will also have a moderate up-front investment in tools and supplies, depending on what you already have.

You will probably want wood blades to start, cheaper and they break instead of breaking things. Tech Model Products has nice woodies for $28 for 3 sets.

The S9254 is a full sized servo, the S9650 or JR DS3400G are mini sized servos and even so are a bit big for a Trex. The S9254 is a MONSTER on a Trex.

More battery packs, I am flying DN Power packs with good luck. Another inexpensive pack is the Hextronic from United Hobbies. For all out performance, Flight Power EVO V-power are the top right now.

I agree, get a real charger, the E-station, Triton2 with Equinox balancer, Thunder Power with balancer, FMA CellPro4, etc. The Elfite is not really a true balancing charger and you want one with readouts to tell you more about your charge, like how much you put back into the pack. The FMA CellPro4 is an awesome charger for $65 (get the A123 version as it has some additional modes even for Lipos).

What is the easiest power supply solution? I’m looking at the Pro Peak 20 Amp Digital Power Supply, but how the heck to I get from banana plugs to the gator grip things on the CellPro4? :dontknow

Cut off the gator grips and add banana plugs. If you want to still be able to use the gater grips, use female banane jacks on the cut wire to allow you to plug the cut off end back onto the charger.
