Trying to use ATG with gas engine

I used to have a revmax on my gasser and just mounted the sensor next to the engine where the magneto rotates. Worked great. The revamx finally took a crap and only thing hobby store had was the ATG. Is there any reason I cant do the same thing with the atg, the sensor appears to be same type but having problems getting a sensor reading but I also havent exactly grasped the programming on the ATG. Bought it yesterday and trying to get it in before weekend is out :).

You may get it to work. I have one engine with the casing drilled at a location over the flywheel and a Hall-Effect sensor is glued into the case at the correct gap for the highest signal (for a GV-1).
