I just started flying my lepton with the DX7 - the collective is much more sensitive - do any of you DX7 flyers find the collective to be much more sensitive and more attention needed to keep the heli. steady??

The DX7 is definately "Faster". Many folks have added a bit of expo, say 15%, when switching and taken it out later. Obviously, not expo on collective, but you can "flatten" the curve around center by using the various points.

Oh, and if you do expo on other channels, and you used to fly Futaba, be aware that JR and Fut expo are backward from each other. +expo makes things "softer around center" in a JR (and Spektrum DX7, since it's a JR7202 with 2.4gig).

I find the DX7 more responsive and precise than my previous radio (an Optic 6). Not a bad thing, but it takes some getting used to.

I find myself using too much collective on rolls and loops. It takes a bit of getting used to. This never happened with my Futaba 9C, even though the settings (+/- 10 degrees) are exactly the same.

I also notice a difference (for the better) running the DX7 on my Reflex simulator. I don't know about the Phoenix sim yet, as my cable is in for repair.

Can't say this is or isn't true... but there is no technical reason for it.

The "quickness" of the DX7 is because of an all digital link between the processor and RF sections. All other transmitters produce either a PPM or PCM 'stream' that goes to the RF section. This stream introduces some latency that the 7 bypasses with it's all digital link. However, the DX7 digital link does NOT apply to the trainer port and therefore not to Reflex. The DX7 trainer port is pure PPM, just like any other transmitter.

So, again, I would never say that someone elses hands-on experience is or isn't true... just saying that the DX7 has the same PPM interface to Reflex as does any other transmitter. Should be very similar to any other decent transmitter... and/or a "dumb" 4-channel box. In some ways, those old "dumb" boxes were faster than modern "computer" radios!

If your prior transmitter was a Futaba 9C, those have known latency problems, bigtime, that even affect their PPM output. That would certainly explain it!
