OK, then:

THRO gets the ESC
AIL gets the front left servo
ELE gets the rear servo
RUDD gets the GY401 3 wire connector (or if running any other gyro, its "main" or only connector)
GEAR gets teh GY401 1 wire connector (or gain on any other gyro)
AUX1 gets the front right servo.

Watch Finless Bob's setup Video... and/or here is a quick guide:

Set the radio to "120 DEG" or "3 Servo" (I don't remember exactly what it says on the DX7)

1) Move the left stick up/down (like throttle). If all three swash servos happen to move in the same direction, GREAT, goto next step. Likely two of the swash servos will move the same, one opposite. Find the servo reversing page and revers the "different" one. Dont worry (yet) which way the swash moves, just get all the servos moving the SAME way.

2) Find the [SWASH MIX] page. Should have AIL, ELE, and PIT all set to 60. When moving the left (throttle) stick to the top of the radio (away from you when holding radio) the swash should move UP. If not, change the PIT number to -60.

3) Stand behind heli. Move the RIGHT stick right/left. When moving right, the swash should tilt right. If not, change AIL to -60.

4) Still behind heli, move the RIGHT stick forward/aft. When moving aft/back (to you), the swash should tilt back. If not, change ELE to -60.

5) As a check, move the RIGHT stick in several directions. From behind the heli, the swash should tilt in the exact same direction the stick is moving (as though the stick were welded to the center of the swash). Also check that LEFT stick forward (throttle up) moves the swash UP.

6) Find one of the PITCH CURVE menues and adjust the left stick until it reads "INPUT 50 OUTPUT 50". Now set the servo arms on the heli exactly level (take them off and move the splines as required). Once the splines are close, use the SUBTRIM menu to get them EXACTLY level (in relation to the servo case). Now adjust pushrods until the swash doesn't bind at top nor bottom and when returning to 50 in/out, all mixing arms (halfway up the main and up in the "cage" in the flybar assembly) are exactly level and the blades are at exact zero pitch. This wil take several "passes" through all the links...

thanks so much danal!! i will watch the gy 401, dx7, and bobs set up videos.

you were a great help danal! thanks!

it seems weird to me that the front right servo would plug into aux1, and the esc in throttle?? what plugs in the batt then? external bec maybe? since the align has built in bec's the batt plug is not used maybe? just guessing.

Batt plug is not used in your setup.

Think of a glow airplane. Battery goes to BAT and throttle servo goes to THRO (CH1).

In your setup the Electronic Speed Controler with builtin Battery Eliminator Circuit (ESC/BEC) does both. It MUST go in CH1 to get its throttle control signal (pulses). Power (from the ESC or a battery) can go in any port; they + and - pins are all "bussed" together. In fact, on some receivers/setups (generally without ESC/BEC), you run out of ports... a "Y" cable into ANY port will hookup a battery in these situations.
