Well since Dennis isn't posting any pictures of his 500D Trex600 project (just buyin' more and more bling :D ) Here's how I did the tail mod for the tail servo. I know a lot of you are flyin' your 500D's already but nobody posted any how to stuff. I finally figured out what that extra hole is for  I had to swap a carbon rod for the linkage since it's now an inch longer

Hi Paul,

Nice servo modification - just finishing the build of the 600. Did you have to cut the tail boom of the fuse? How did you secure the frame to the wood floor - the frame is narrower than the plywood floor? And, did you modify the attachment point behind the elevator where the canopy mount would go? I'm going to test fly the frame before mounting the 600

I'm building it first as a pod/boom to get it set-up right, the tail servo is (hopefully) the only mod required. I've read some people are having problems with the elevator servo sticking out too far. I won't know until I take the tail apart and stuff it in. More pictures to come......

Hi Paul:

doing the same here - building the bird first to get it flying right, then I'll install it in the 500. I test fit the frame and boom into the fuselage before finishing the 600. The Elevator servo does stick out and is in the way of the brace that's supposed to secure the frame (where the canopy standoff attaches) to the plywood former on the inside of the 500. Will have to work around it best I can tell. I think the metal standoffs that came with the 500 should give it enough height so the frame sits level and the boom is centered in the fuse boom. Still think I'll have to cut off some of the 500 boom - only way around it may be to cut the plywood former on the side and push the elevator servo past it - then work an attachment point in front of the servo instead of where the standoff goes. How are you planning to paint the fuse?

Well finally a real answer on the elevator servo issue. Thanks! Yeah the standoffs in the kit for other mechanics look like the'll work fine to get the frame up high enough. I read that 20mm's off the fuse boom should do the job. A Y shaped notch on the top of the fuse should be the only other cutting to do.
Paint, I got LUCKY! I have a friend in No. Cal (Eureka) who paints custom bikes and I shipped him a box of old Traxxas parts a while back. He owes me one, all I gotta do is pick the design and the colors :D

Paul - a Y shaped notch? - for the anti-rotaion bracket - yes? Looks like we're both "paint" luckey - I have a friend who runs an auto paint shop and is into helis - loves painting canopys. I'll be test flying the frame this wkend and likely start a little install mid next week - stay in touch.

Regards,

Nick
