FBL Need Not Apply!

I'm just wondering what other flybar 550E owners are running for cyclic and collective pitch.

I just upped my collective a little from about 11° to 12° and I also raised my cyclic from about 7/8° to a solid 9°.
I really don't notice much of a difference on collective but my roll and flip rates are much better, faster, now that my AIL and ELE rates have been raised to 9°.

I'm just curious about what others are running, please post your collective and cyclic pitch rates here.

I haven't talked with my buddy for a couple of days, but I'll point him to this thread so he can reply to it. :)

when i had fb head on the 550, i was running 12 deg collective, 8 deg cyclic

when i had it fb, i used to run 13.5 collective, and 9 cyclic. yes, it bound at the corners at low and high pitch. but u will never get to that at the same time..

average setup 11 pitch, 9 cyclic with zero binding when crossed controlled.

12 pitch, 10.5 cyclic but elev needs to be modified to have zero binding.

Thanks for the input.
Seems I'm running fairly "average" pitch ranges. That's good, I'm a pretty average guy.

A hair less than +/- 12 pitch and 10 cyclic

hi guys,

just wondering is there an easy video or instruction to follow of how to set the cyclic percentage on a heli?

thanks alot

Hi , when u say cycle pitch is that the amount of pitch applied to the flybar on cycle stick ?

hi

yes, the cyclic pitch. i have setup the collective pitch to give me +11 -11 on the collective, just need to understand the cyclic pitch now.

thanks alot

Well as I understand it it's just the amount of travel the swashplate makes for aleiron , elevator I could be very wrong but that's what I took it to mean , I set all my heli's so the swash travels as far as possible in any direction without binding even when blade pitch is at +-11 ? If that's wrong I'd very much like to underst it better too :)

As most of us know, collective pitch is the measurment, in degrees, of the angle of attack or blade twist that cause positive and negative lift.

Cyclic pitch is the angle of attack, or movement of the blades, that cause aileron roll rate and elevator flip rate.

In order to measure cyclic pitch put the collective stick at the mid point for zero collective pitch and use something to hold the flybar level with the tailboom. I use rdlohr's flybar locks for all of my heli's. He makes a very good product and is a member here at HeliFreak.

For AIL, position the main blades parallel to the boom and give full left cyclic stick and full right cyclic stick and measure with a pitch gauge on the blades these full deflections. That gives you AIL cyclic pitch.

Then position the main blades at 90° to the boom and give full forward cyclic stick and full backwards cyclic stick and measure these deflections with the pitch gauge still on the blades. This gives you ELE cyclic pitch.

It's standard practice to use the AIL and ELE Swash Mix values to adjust these pitch ranges to the desired levels.

Probably not the best description but I hope that helps. :)
