Well I'm rebuilding my E-raven and think it would be a good idea to give you a step by step review on my conversion.
I have been out of the hobby for about 3 months (Building a house) but it could be an interesting trip for all of you wanting to build your own E Heli.
If your interested I will give part numbers that I have used and include some of my own CAD info.
I am flying a lower budget (if that's possible) Lipo setup but it flies as well as a 50 class Heli.
What do you think?

Hey Tom,
Go for it. I would like to see what you are doing. I will be starting the new E-Predator as soon as I get the shop/guest-trailer cleaned for the holiday. Maybe we will give each other some good ideas.

OK... First let me say that this is the setup I chose. There about 351.5 combinations for building an E-Heli and none of them are really wrong.
This is the setup I went with and the only one I have flown.
Second : Mid sized E-Helis are NOT cheap, you could have a Gasser for what I have spent and I did this as cheap as my performance level goals dictated.
The first thing you will need
1) Century Raven 50 kit P/N : CN1061
1) Predator front frame and battery tray P/N : HW6112A
1) Mega Motor ACn 22/45/3
1) Castle Creations Pheonix 60 speed controller
2) Thunder Power 3S3P Lipo batteries
1) Orbit Microlader Pro Charger
3) Deans connector sets
1ft Ea.) Red and Black 14 guage battery wire
Order extra of the above 2 to make your life better
1) Kool Flight Systems UBEC (I got the 5v. model)
1) 23 or 24 tooth Joker Pinion
Your choice of Radio and Gyro Gear

Ok.. the parts have come and your "almost excited"
The Raven 50 kit will go together just about as the instructions say, except for a few changes.
You will want to assemble the main frame halfs without the bearings (with just a few bolts) and cut the fan shroud and front support off so it looks like this:

Now that the dust has settled from cutting up your new kit. you have the pleasure of knowing there is no turning back now!!! :D
Take P/N HW6112A and cut 2.00 inches off the back of the battery tray.(the part without the "Return") This will be your motor mount. In this package there will be 2 parts, the longest one is the battery tray, the other part can be used if you have a post hole that is too deep! Your Mega Motor will come with a template for the motor mount pattern or you can download it from their site.
Center this in your 2.00 inch piece and get to drillin!!!. You will need button head allen screws to mount the motor to the mount. Be sure to check the length of the button head, as too long of a screw will damage the windings of the motor.
This is the finished product:

I wish I'd have seen this sooner. I have what I call El Raven in my hobby room. I built this type of conversion last year. I ended up a little frustrated. I have a pair of 4s4pTp packs. It flies too heavy. Mild areo stuff but too much weight. I should get it out and try the same voltage but less battery capacity. New cells let you use maybe 8s2p. I never thought I wanted to fly for 20 mins. Like packing a glow motor heli with a quart of juice. Except as the power runs out the weight stays! Is anyone interested in this bird as a project? TimT
