Just wondering if some or most people use one.
I have them on all my 4 strokes for my planks but probably don't *really* need them since the engines are cowled and not much gets stirred up in the cowl.

With a heli I would think it's a good idea because of the huge downwash to the ground/pavement during spin-up and take off, same as hovering to land...

Anyone have any sort of problem using filters? Drawbacks?

Mike

Never used on any of my heli motors. So far no ill effects detected.

Never used them on any type of model engines except the one in RC car or truck.
Never seen anyone else use filter on plane or heli in 20 years.

Thanks David.
When I started flying r/c planks in '91 some guys in the area used filters so I thought I'd do the same and have ever since. There weren't many helis around our area back then and I just thought that some used them too.

Below is a pic of the filters I use on planes. The area of foam filter is slightly larger than the intake stack so that's a good thing.

Given the amount of helis flying out there and that you have never seen 'em used... I probably won't use it either.

Thanks guys

Check out the website for the Pantera, they use an airfilter on their helicopters, maybe the filter and intake neck will work for you, I think the website is audacitymodels.com
