View Full Version : Vista and broken text

After a recent OS change to Vista, I've noticed the text on the menus for Phoenix is broken up and a little difficult to read at times. Our nVidia FX5200 looked really good under XP, but looked pretty ugly under Vista so we upgraded to a 512MB nVidia 7600GS but the video and text isn't much better. I noticed when I select the 1280x1024 resolution, it rescales to 1200x1024.

Has anyone else seen similar issues or found a work around?

Thanks,

Doug

Are you setting the PhoenixRC>settings>system to more resolution that you have the monitor set for? Should be equal or less, and do not check-box full screen .... see if this helps? Are you set for 32bit or higher color? Have you gone to the Computer>system>settings and checked the driver level of the DISPLAY card and compared it to the current driver level offered on the NVidia web site for your graphics card?

Bob,

I was working on a couple of things last night and figured out a work around. When I set the resolution to 1280x1024, the application promptly re-sizes to 1200x1024. Once I change the setting to full-screen everything is crystal clear. I think its a function of the scaling that was causing the broken text. A few other minor changes to the anti-aliasing and vertical-sync helped with the visuals during flying.

PhoenixRC shot me an email overnight with the following information;

Hi Doug

Thank you very much for reporting your results.

We will be completely redesigning the window-sizing aspect of Phoenix in the 1.04 version. This version will allow you to re-size the simulator window arbitrarily using your mouse, and to minimize/maximize/restore. This should also fix the problem you encountered at the same time.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Best Regards

PhoenixRC Support

The final setup for now look like this;

DELL 4600 Intel 2.4GHz P4
2.5Gig memory
nVidia 7600GS (512MB) video card
Full Screen Mode
Vertical Sync ON
Anti-Aliasing OFF
Smoke Detail HIGH
Shadow Detail HIGH
Airtronics Stylus Radio

Thanks,

Doug
