Based on my background when a battery "puffs" it's physically larger and doesn't go down. I'm reading posts that make it sound more like a lipo cell baloons where the outer covering is "puffy" but can be easily compressed.

I'm looking for clarification because heat can cause some coverings to "puff" where the cell may or may not be damaged.

My experience with outgassing on cells is PRE-Lipo. IF a cell is "puffed" I would expect the metal casing to be deformed. Is this not the case with Lipo based cells?

Yes if you take a ruler and measure each end of the cells in the pack they should be "about" the same (if using a good quality pack). It should at least look uniform.

A swollen pack will look like someone injected more battery into one or more of the cells.

Correct. I have seen a couple. Not mine though, yet. Yes, the metal cases for the individual cells puff and deform.

Ok so if the COVERING of the pack is loose then that's not the same as a puffed pack? That's what I understand you guys to be confirming. :)

If your pack gets hot enough to puff, you have reduced it's life considerably. Doesn't matter if it's the cell or the covering.

Puffed means puffed up, like in overstuffed.

Not loose covering. The packs new are somewhat loose.
