I was wondering how dangerous those things really are ... Lets not assume we are doing silly stuff but rahter:

Good charger and balancer ... do these things still go up in flames?

So please share:

- Have you had a pack go up in flames while charging?

- Have you had a pack go up in flames while storing it?

- Have you had a pack go up in flames while flying?

I have charged Eflite Lipos and Thunderpower maybe a total of 100 times and no problem yet.

Obviously they wouldn't sell the things if they just burst into flame for no reason.

If you use a decent LiPo charger and know how to treat them they're safe enough.

The answer is:

Over charing causes them to vent with flames.

Too high of discharge reate causes them to vent with flames.

Using a physically damaged pack (crashed) can cause them to vent with flames.

And that is about it.
