Yeah, I've been using 3mm CF for my boom for a while now, and its plenty stiff enough. :-) I keep breaking 120 tail motor mounts, and I've just about torn the little plastic boom-holding triangular section from the back of my stock frame entirely off, but the boom itself is bomb-proof. :-) I turned the front end of the 3mm rod down to 2mm to fit into my stock frame, and while I'm sure there is some weight penalty, its nothing that has made any noticeable difference to me. (and the heli looks a little beefier w/ the thicker boom, too! :-)

I've ordered the RKH frame and am planning to make a little custom tail boom block for the back of the frame so that I can run straight 3mm (w/o having to reduce the end of the 3mm boom to 2mm). At that point, I may try using the 120 3mm CF tube and see how that holds up. It would be nice to be able to run the wires inside the tube, and the 3mm tube would obviously be at least a little bit lighter than the 3mm rod. Remains to be seen how strong it is...

What is the advantage of the 3mm tail? I have yet to break a 2mm solid rod, but have broken everything else connected to the tail boom.

is it compatibility with the SR120 tail mount?

the sr 120 tail is 3mm. So if you want to use the 120 tail motor mount you either need to turn down a 3mm shaft to fit in the frame or add some sort of shim to a 2mm rod to make the tail motor mount fit nicely.
As for why to use a 3mm, its just really rigid. So where people are adding the boom supports for added stiffness which helps with some 3d and maybe backwards flight, you can just use the 3mm boom without supports. At least that's my thought process.

Yes, I'm using the 3mm due to the 120 tail. It was far simpler for me to just turn one 3mm end down to 2mm than to try to shim a 2mm end up to 3mm to fit into the tail motor mount. Plus, while I don't stress much over how the heli looks, it does look a little more serious w/ the 3mm boom. :-)

For my sake (I seem to crash tail-first a lot - perhaps because I'm working on those skills more), I didn't have any issue w/ the stiffness of the 2mm solid CF boom, and I'm not having any such issues w/ the 3mm either. The weak point for me is the triangular area where the boom inserts into the rear of the main frame. That area (where it attaches to the rest of the frame) is perpetually soft and bendy (from too much deformation w/ crashes) or cracked (and held together w/ much CA, as it is at present as I await the arrival of my RKH frame). I'm hoping the RKH frame will prove stronger in this area (where the boom attaches to the frame). I'm guessing the tail supports would help in this, but I'd rather not use them if I don't have to. (more weight, more stuff to break, more money to be spent, etc)

I was told by the Rakon rep in their online chat that I should be receiving my frame in the next week or so, but AFAIK, Cusker is sending things out for them, and i haven't heard anything from them (order status change, shipping notice, etc), so I'm not sure if any progress is being made or not. It seems that Rakon's manufacturer hasn't been able to crank things out fast enough.

Yeah, I look at it like, the 2mm boom is lighter and already break-proof so I use the boom supports to help take some stress off the tail mount point and stiffen up the 2mm tail further. A 3mm tail without boom supports is just heavier but has not protection against overly stressing the frame (stock or RKH)

We'll see how my SR120 conversion with the 2mm boom goes.

Yes, if anything, the stiffer 3mm boom probably just increases the stress experienced by the boom-mounting area of the frame. The boom supports are likely a better approach, but I'm not going to go there unless I need to. (And I was needing to prior to ordering the RKH frame, and am now just sort of holding it all together until the frame gets here and I see how it goes. Unfortunately, it won't bend like the stock plastic one. It'll work great right up to the point that it fails, then I'll have a bigger and more expensive problem on my hands. :-)

Hence why I went with the boom supports. They don't really weigh that much and if they can help at all with stiffness of the tail and prevention of damaging the main frame, I think they're worth it.

Well that's why I'm going with the MH frame. I'll at least get the option. I would believe if its designed to accept the 3mm rod that it will be built to also take the additional stress. If not I can go back to 2mm and try booms.

I recently stumbled on the on the microheli frame at horizon hobbies of all places and cheaper :) They are taking preorders but only selling them at $39.95 compared to $46.99 and I also get free shipping!

I bought microheli landing gear for my mcpx and they all broke after one day and Im worried about this frame being just as fragile. The overview says it has removeable conopy pins but by the pics of the frame it looks like the carbon fiber pins dont go all the way through the frame and Im worried that you will have to buy theier exclusive frame pasrts if you do bust a frame pin.
Does any one know for sure?

RKH frame in red available here in Austria:
http://www.modellbau-lenz.at/onlineshop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=217_25_289_476&products_id=6947

Euro 39.90 (very cheap for Europe).
Good shop, very fast and cheap (for Austria) shipping - ordered several times at Modellbau Lenz.

Only for those, who do not want to wait anymore ;)

Wow - it was not sold out when I posted the link (only silver was sold out).
Posted the link here and in a German forum.
Last ones must have been sold after my posts ;)

I backordered the MH frame with a credit card on 8/18. I have backordered several things from them in the past, and they have never, ever charged my card until whatever I had on backorder actually shipped. Don't know what happened in your case, but I'd call them.

Has anyone received a MH frame yet? Curios to hear some feedback on this frame, I'm leaning towards the RKH but would like to hear some other feedback on the mh frame.

MH frame is not released yet AFAIK
