New Tail Gears Torture Test

I was at MA on Thursday Nov 11 when the test of the tail gears was done.

go to the link above and scroll down and play the video. It was an awesome test of the durability of the new tail gears. The tail blades were eaten away by the piece of pine that was being jammed into them.
When the test was completed there were only nubs of the tail blades left. The gears still looked new and mesh was smooth and moved easily. The only casuality in the demostration was the output shaft was tweaked slightly, this caused the vibration you hear in the video.

Really impressive demonstration. I saw the gearbox in person at Mulberry and it is very smooth and this video proves how durable it is. Now if you can toughen up the bevel gear a little the whole system will be capebob proof. :lol:

I am glad to see this.. A couple of years ago, on that "other" forum, I made at least one post, probably more, saying that I believed big, plastic, tail gears to be the optimal setup. It is nice to see that MA was listening.. :cool:

It should be going into the Extreme kit at a later date. The new open tail will first be standard equipment for the Spectra-G, then migrate to other premium kits.

Last i heard (today) was that the open gearbox will now be standard on tempest's.

Or so i was lead to believe.

The new gear box will be standard in the Spectra G kit.
In the future it will also be included in the Tempest and Extreme.
It may be several months before it is standard in the Tempest and Extreme.

My guess is he should have them this week if he ordered them.
MA built many gear boxes last week and sent them out.

Just checked and they don't have them yet but one will be sent to me as soon as they have it. :D

Have you heard about a new material for their clutch dampers? Just a rumor I've heard.

Yes there is suppose to be some dampeners made out of a little harder material. They are still molded just like they have been since they went to the molded dampners. Some of the Team Pilots have been using the new dampeners.
