Help me program my Pheonix 85HV for my e-620 raptor. I have a Z-power Z50A-800 motor on a 6cell lipo. What settings are you using?

I figured out a little bit about it. One word of advise... DON'T PUT IT IN GOV MODE THE FIRST TIME YOU PROGRAM IT!! Bad choice on my part and was crazy as hell to get back into program mode after that. It would spool up at any given random time in idle up 1 then stop... then spool up again. After I did get it back into program mode (which was a pain in the ass) I chose fixed throttle and all is well now.
Bad mistake!!!! Bad Jeremy!!! :Chair (Me beating myself with a chair)

That sounds strange. Unfortunately, I'm not using the HV 85 on my RapE 600, but the regular Castle 80 Phoenix controller with a Z-30A motor. My Trex 600 uses another regular CC80. Both of these have the BEC disabled and I'm running the Align BEC circuit with a separate Lipo.
I have all of my CC controllers set up the same: Auto cell detect, High Governor mode, and I also use the default spool up speeds. I am now running six of these in various machines with the Spektrum DX7 and have had no problems. Actually, it's all the experience I've had with the CC controllers at work (and play) that has converted me from nitro to electric. These things are dirt simple to set up and run.
I lowered the throttle travel to 120 percent to get the CC to arm consistently. I use 0.0 as my throttle hold percentage. My Normal mode is 0-70-70-70-70 and Idle 1 is 70 straight across. Idle 2 is 85 straight across. Your percentages may vary depending on desired head speed.
The Castle is very efficient at anything above 70 percent and our projects at work taught us that "full throttle" is anything above 85 percent.
I hope this helps,
Ron

Clint says you want gov mode for sure.... ALso I got a file from Jeff Fassbinder of his castle 85 setup. It's attached.

I'm scared to put it back in Gov mode Bob. It was spooling up on its own and stuff. I'm sure you guys know something about it being in Gov mode that I don't. I will continue to research it.

These things are very sensitive. You obviously have a low enough setting to arm the ESC, but it sounds like you are being surprised by the ESC as it starts the motor.
These things do not seem to idle like a glow engine. As soon as you move the stick off zero, the ESC will start the motor. When the stick hits 25 percent above zero, the ESC will go into governor mode and it WILL spool up on its own. It doesn't take much stick movement to start this process and that's exactly what it is supposed to do.
I wish I could help more, but would have to see exactly what you are doing. Often, it's the little things that trip us up (Throttle servo reversed, stick not quite at the bottom, throttle hold above zero, flight mode, throttle trim active, etc.)
Be careful and take it one step at a time. It does work and it does work well.

I think I'm starting to get an idea how this thing works.. will let you know if i have anymore questions.

Rocket Man, Finless.... Thanks guys for your help. I purshased a Castle Link today and it has so many more features than stick programing alone. I seem to have things right this time. I have never had a heli this complex and nice so a lot of things are new to me. I will keep you informed. Thanks again!!! :noteworthy

Jeremy,
Please accept my apologies. I thought you had the Castle Link programming software all along. Stupid me. The software lays things out so easily - that would have been my first suggestion.
I have absolutely no idea how to program one of these things using the transmitter stick. My laptop goes with me everywhere.

No problem... What pitch curves are you using?

My pitch curves are very much standard: +/- 10 degrees. I am running the 140 degree swash, but am only driving it at 60 percent. There is plenty of room for more if I ever want to go crazy.
The head is the modified metal unit that originally flew on the machine when it was powered by my old faithful O.S. 32-FH several years ago. (This machine was one of the first batch of Raptor 30 V2.) When the crankcase finally cracked, I upgraded to the Hyper 50, and now finally upgraded to electric power. It still has the regular 50 tail boom (not a Titan) and the Quick UK tail rotor unit. I'm planning to keep it that way for now. :glasses2:
I am toying with the idea of running the Align T-Rex 600 head. It's definitely lighter than the Raptor unit and it's cheaper than the Kasama head. Several guys around here have tried this and seem to like it. I'm negotiating with my sponsor right now and hope she gives me the okay soon.

These are the E-620 Raptor PHX 85HV settings Bob sent me. I've Made a few changes and find these are what works best for this heli. I've attached the data file.
Enjoy!!!!! :fly

Shawn I've taught myself EVERYTHING including how to fly. without help.... other than forums. It's been a tough road man. If it wasn't for you and the guys/girls around here I would have never got this far. :glasses2:

Bottom line you are now here, x marks the spot and now you can take it to the next level and help others with what you have learned as well. That is payback all in its' own for everyone. :cheers
