I just finished (I thought) assembling my first ARF T-Rex SE V2 and now I’m having some problems trying to hover. I’m trying to hover tail-in and my problem is that the heli wants to move laterally to the left as soon as it has enough pitch to start lifting. It doesn’t seem to me like it is a problem with the aileron being trimmed to the left because it seems to be tilting to the right of 90 degrees as it is darting to the left across the floor. I get the same result whether I am using normal or heading-hold on the gyro. It's also not ground effect because I get the same result nose-in (okay I walked to the other side  ). It almost seems like the rudder is too powerful and pushes the poor bird hard left. Is my rudder center off and is my gyro compensating? I’m totally confused.

That's normal for a any heli to do.

In a way, you have already figured out the reason as to why your heli starts drifting to the left, it's because of the tail pushing against the torque of the main rotor. Thus causing the heli to drift.

Just compensate with a little right aileron as it starts to lift off the ground and you should be fine.

P.S. I'm sure there is someone that can explain the drift better than I did.

 Thanks.

This is my first CP. I'll learn to fly someday :)
finless needs to do a flight video now that so many of us have one built using his super helpful build videos.

Actually, you explained it pretty well. The problem though is that you can't get it to stop sliding sideways until the skids are off the ground because the heli has to lean to the right to compensate for the left thrust of the tail rotor.

I've known people to put small spacers on the left side between the landing gear and frame so it sits on the ground with the appropriate right lean. This lets you slide around on the ground without the strong tendency to slide left.

Yup, what they said :)

If you have not already, you might want to read RADDs flight training, it could save you some $$$: http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html
