Finally made up my mind not to upgrade the CPP anymore. (I think i can, I think I can!) I'm going to either get a Trex SE or a Mini Titan and a DX7. Probably the radio first, unless I just have to tinker. Anyway, I added a fluorescent yellow paint job that looks like the e-flite in the pictures but a lot brighter in person, microheli CNC head, 370 Bl main, Fiego 5300kv tail, Aluminum tail boom with quick swap capability, G90 HH gyro, DD tail prop (bl motor), modified superskids, Thunderbird 18 ESC (main), Pheonix 10 ESC (tail), Futaba S3114 servos, Microheli auto gear and hub, CF main blades, lowered stance and a homemade aluminum frame plate/ESC mount/ battery tray. This is the best setup I can do with my limited abilities . Flys great for my needs. No 3D cause I'm a noob and weighs in at a piggy 410 grams with a TP 1320mah 3S battery.

Wow man that is some bling bling, very nice. How does it fly compared to it stock as far as the added weight, does it feel slugish at all? My buddy has almost the same set up as you and with the stock Tx it just felt kind of slugish, with the exception of power. Now with his DX7 its a whole different machine. Very nice machine you have there.

Sell it while it looks good!

LOL, Sell it? Who'd buy it? I couldn't take advantage of someone like that :lolol

Bonesx: Thank you. Flys pretty much like stock with more power. Added weight makes it a little sluggish but more stable especially outside. I can punch the throttle in HH mode and only get about 3-4" of kick out. I'm a noob so my FFF experience is limited bit I did get a chance to open her up in a sports dome. I was impressed. There were a few other people there with stock CP and CPPs wasn't really even the same machines. I've spent the last three months 90% indoors so I fly by habit about 4-6' off the ground. At that height it makes the little thing look like its going faster maybe?

I should be getting a DX7 soon. I cant wait to try one out.

Personally, the money into this thing is a lot for a CPP but the learning experience was priceless. I'm not sorry I put $500+ in upgrades even though there really not worth it. Thats not including replacement parts after crashes. I went through at least 12 tail motors before going brushless on the tail, at least 5 sets of blades 3 of them CF blades, so on and so forth. Sure I could have had a Trex SE minus the TX but, (well maybe a trex 600 with DX7 after all the experimenting) I'm glad I did what I did.

Sell it cheap if it makes you feel better.

Same boat here too. I put a wad of cash into my full bl blade and flew it for over a year without any motor or electronics problems. A few broken parts but nothing serious. tough little bird though it was too fat (393 grams) for any serious airobatics. I put 254 hours on it last year.

either the feigao or cc10 went south a few weeks ago and its been on the shelf since. I'm thinking this will be the next upgrade.

upgrading a motorized tail will never net a hard hold. the difference is rather minimal to a GWS DD w/brushed motor. BUT>>>the longevity of the units is a real releaf.

I've got pleanty of other heli's to fly while I make up my mind.

I've been mulling that and the compy 300 over for a while. I dont think I'll do either one right now. The CPP is the only heli I have and I have stock TX. I just cant justify sinking anymore money into this before I get a better bird and TX.

Wise decision. You really need a good TX and that should be the first "upgrade" for anyone that is sure they are addicted.

Going seperates with a good TX is the best upgrade for the BCP I feel. That's just my oppinion....oppinions vary. Once you start setting up a custom heli, having control of curves and servo travel and Dual rates etc is almost a necessity.

Buzzkill, that is a nice looking Blade.

What are you using for the black round ball on the end of the tail boom support?

Thanks

Bad ass heli for sure, nice job!!If your thinking of a larger electric the T-Rex will really wake you up, its one mean machine with great parts support. Use the "Finless" videos to build and set up the T-Rex and it should fly perfect the first time you lift off.

The transmitter should definitely be your first buy, the Cp will fly even better with a good Tx and the DX7 will have plenty of memory for more models. One of the main selling points of the DX7 for me was the itty bitty antenna that can be turned to the side, now someone can stand next to me and watch without getting their eye put out.

Holy hell! Are there anymore upgrades? It doesn't look like you're quitting... it looks like you ran out!

Nice heli, bro!

:lolol So true.

Thanks for the kind words. I doubt I'd even be hovering if it wasnt for the people on Helifreak. I've visited many many other forums and this is by far the best site around. Thanks for all the help!

hey buzzkill can you take some good close up's of your super skids. monday my super skids ship out and i dont really like how high it sits. so i was wondering you modded yours

Buzzkill

I will if you think you really want to do it. I did because I had two sets of superskids. It involves an aluminum plate, copping your skids, modding your canopy and relocating your battery. If you still wanna no send me a pm.

Whats your AUW ? My lipo weighs a lot more than a stock pack. The stock pack wont take the BL main and tail at all, puffy packs and all that.

Funky:Nice looking CPP btw. Is that a BL tail? I've ben trying to find someone that has a BL tail with a pheonix 10 so I can leach their settings

Thanks for the kind words, but I know its a little ugly :D You should see it with the canopy.... after a few groundings it is mostly tape holding it together... not very pretty. I like the look of yours though, a lot cleaner than mine. I don't know my AUW, I'll weigh it next time I have access to a scale. The scale I use to balance blades only goes up to about 80 grams. With the canopy, battery and driver for the lights I am sure its a pig.

Its not a brushless tail, just a GWS DD tail setup. I thought about doing the Fiego/CC10 tail, but other projects have been draining my wallet lately. My tail motor finally went out a few weeks ago and I still haven't ordered a replacement so its been grounded for a while. I miss flying it though, so I'll have to get a replacement.

You puffed your stock batteries with the brushless setup? It must be the dual brushless setup. I haven't had any problems with mine. I run 2 stock E-Flite 800s and 2 Apex 1000s. I have over 100 flights on each of the E-Flites (at least 50 since going brushless) and around 60-70 flights on my Apex batteries. I have never had any of them puff... although I time all of my flights and make sure I am not using more than 80% of the packs mah.

Its the dual BL setup. That little tail adds alot to the draw. Stock e-flite packs have a 8c max (I think). Plus even when hovering I'm always on the throttle. I fly in my living room testing this and that. You'd be surprised how crazy you can get with a cpp in a small space after being shutin for 3-4 months LOL. Should be getting my DX7 soon so that'll be another month of tight quater flying. On that note. When I first tried the BL main and tail I noticed that my flight times where down to 4-5 minutes, granted I almost alway run it ragged testing the settings and responses. I got a TP 1320 13c and Custom RC 1000 20c. Flight times are about the same 8-10 minutes depending on how hard I push it. I never hover in place (well rarely) most people would think it was out of control or at least I was having a hard time. Truth is I can land it on a DVD case no prob. I set 2-3 out in the floor and hop from one to the other with touch and go seeing how fast I can hit them. E-flite stock packs got puffy, not o-shit its gonna blow puffy, but after seeing the lipo-sack vid of lipo's going to hell even the slightest puffiness gets me worried. The stock packs get really hot too (130F) if I push them. So I save the 3 stockpacks for short not so zippy flights.

I have a watt meter but I'm not sure how to set it up to find out how much each motor is trying to draw. Would help if I did though since thats why I bought the thing. May have to look into it but the three wire BL things got me.

Heres my full bl setup with cc10....

check it out! about halfway down the page....my post of the cc10 settings.

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t304343p1/

one thing I found after that post (rather old really) is that a brake of 25% helps in the transition from right rudder to left in such as a figure eight pattern. So...instead of brake at 0, increase it to 20 - 30 (start at 20 and see what you think).

Great looking bird. I love seeing videos, wish more people (including myself) had video cameras. Thanks for the CC10 setings as soon as I get to a computer that will run the software I'll give them a shot.

Thanks, As I said above, this setup lasted a long....loonng time with no problems. Charge and Fly... Wore out two heads with it.

BTW - I used a 4530 prop.

PM me if you have questions.

Buzzkill
04-17-2007, 10:54 AM
Thanks man! I use the 4530 and sometimes a 3X2. works good. I just want to dial the tail in a little more. Sometimes when I slap the rudderleft the tail wants to kickback hard to the right. I might be able to tame this a little more I hope. Either that or I'll stop pushing this thing so hard. :?

Plus, +++ With the setup I just posted, the tail motor is still when the heli is still. You'll still get up to a 4inch nose right swag on hard punches but stopping a nose left fast peroet is stout and hard. The 4530 adds bite so comes in faster at a lower rpm. The bit of brake helps with the nose right swing.

hope this helps you. Be sure to let us know how it goes.
