Please Post STATE and City/Town when posting events. Some of us have no clue where "<insert some obscure city name> and aren't likely to both looking it up to find out it's only 2 hours away.

If you really want better attendance please help everyone out by posting State/City (or at least closest major city in the text).

It's a real pain to work this hard to find an event close. Frankly if you don't care enough to make it easy in your ad you shouldn't really expect many to show up.

sorry if this sounds a bit harsh but it's how I feel about it.

As an event CD I can answer your complaint.
The majority of the events are posted by the name they have had for several years. I post my event by the name it has carried for 15 years.

The first post in the event listing usually has the information pretaining to the event. Date, time, location, lodging information etc. etc.

As for people showing up. Must not be a problem for many. Most of the events I attend have 75 plus pilots normally.

I realize your new to the hobby. I don't see a problem with the way events are listed. The idea for the event organizer is to spread the information about the event as many places as he can. I look at Ricks RC event listings most of the time to find out about events. They are organized by calendar dates. Then I browse the forums to find out any other information I might need about the event.

I've got to take Jermo's side on this one. That an event has had a name for fifteen years means little to the new guy in town.

I've seen many references to a Blacksheep event over the last few years - but have no idea where the heck it is!

Posting the actual location might even get you more pilots at those events.

Oh I am not disagreeing with him. As a newbie I made the exact same plea in this thread http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=5858 Old timers forget how hard it is ;)

I am just noting we have someone that compiles it now.

so if you've been doing it wrong for 15 years it must be right? ROFL..I KNOW you don't mean it that way  I just love when people say that.

bah..just trying to suggest a better way. The hobby is rapidly growing with a huge influx. It's much more efficient to be as clear and concise in the title as you can.

Not specifying country/state, city and in the text nearest major city just makes more work for those that might want to attend.

no worries....just trying to be constructive.

Did you read my thread/request from 2 years ago? You can see the effect I had

Show me some events in the listings that don't tell you where they are located and being held.
Just because it may not have all the information in the title and some people are too lazy to click on it and find out . That does not count.
Newbie or old timer a like. It is easy to find the information if they will just look.

Don't know why all the information has to be in the title. There is only so many characters that can be in the title. If the exact location is in the title. Still goiing to have to click on the thread to find out other specifics about the event.

David,

The lazy comment cuts both ways. IF someone is trying to promote their event and is "too lazy" to make it easy for their intended audiance to find the information who is really the lazy one?

If on the otherhand your event is just for people you know and not for anyone new then by all means do it the same way it's been done for 20 years.

Just trying to help.

But it does count when the location isn't mentioned in the thread either. The reason I mentioned Blacksheep earlier is because I specifically asked about its location when a thread talked about it as an upcoming event a couple years or so ago - and never got a response. All too often, locations still aren't listed in the threads.

Noone's looking for flyin' fists here, (or to be called lazy), just a simple request for more information in the threads. Please. With whipped cream and strawberries on top, if you'd like.

There is only so many characters that can be in the title.

Here on Helifreak that is 60 spaces that can be used. So that would be 60 letters provided no spaces were used.

Yeah I just hold my event for people I know as do all the other CDs. But I don't see raw newbies having a problem finding there way to these events. At my event last month, I had probably over 20 in attendance was the first event they had ever attended. They had never seen anyone else fly a heli. I hear the same story at events I attend all the time. When/IF you go to events, you will see and hear the same.

Well now it is a "tad" better but... for example Blacksheep, Clintstones and other events were first listed, I had a hard time finding what states they were in. I HAD TO ASK!

For example:
http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=6804
http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?p=43934
even one of yours Harky
http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=9638

I mean after hunting around and PM'ing folks, I found out. I really do not think it is to much to ask to list the City and State your event is being held in. Putting it in the title just makes it that much easier for the folks looking to go and may catch a newbies attention more than say a field name.

I can't believe you even arguing against this myself... I can fit a bit in a title. I mean most places are not as long as say... BIRMINGHAM, AL

I just find it amusing that people want click on a thread to find out about an event.
Personally I don't care what information is in the title. Event name and date is fine with me. I am going to click and see where it is located and the lodging information.
Or maybe the lodging information should be in the title also with all the phone numbers.

Of your examples above. I will say this is the only one that didn't have any information about where the field is located in the original post. Thou Greg did post a link after you asked.
http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?p=43934

As for the post for my event. What was confusing about it. It has Central Alabama in the title. LOL

Yeah like I said. That was the only one I saw in the examples you posted. I guess Will just forgot to put the information in the post. I have not seen any events posted that there was no information about it in the post.

I just find it amusing that people want click on a thread to find out about an event.

You're missing the point we've tried making: that the location information wasn't in the thread. No amount of clicking on the title is going to put it there, and all we're asking folks to do is to routinely include it.

Show me an event listing the location information was not in the thread. An event listing for this year. I may have missed it, but most I have seen they either give an address, GPS coordinates, or have a map. Some of them even have all three.

David, we're all friends here, let it go man.. just ask folks to do the best they can to make it easier for folks to find. When they, for whatever reason, fail to make it clear date/time/place/other we'll figure it out. It shouldn't be this hard but :dontknow
