Hey all, having trouble deciding what to do with the tail motor on the mcpx again. I've done the extended boom mod and it still blew out bad. Next, I upgraded to the 120 sr wires to get better current to the motor. Now, the stupid motor wires broke off flush with the end cap so I can't service them and the motor is shot. What should I do now? I dont really want to get into the double motor mod and I'm not wanting to go to a brushless main right now either. Kinda just want to plug and play for cheap without the dumb tail blow outs. Should I buy another stock motor and just keep the original wires or should I try a 120 SR tail motor with the brushed main? Need ideas by tomorrow afternoon so I can go buy my parts and get this thing in the air again. Thanks a bunch!

Mine flies fine with a stock motor with ext boom.Even now that I have gone bl I am still using the same set up..You may have just had a bad motor from the start.I would put another stock motor on extended boom and direct solder the wires to the board. This has worked best for me,I have a hard time making the tail blow..

Ok thanks! I'll pick up the stock one and see how it goes.

I feel your pain. I just discovered something that may help you.
I have been having main motor troubles. It will fly for a few flights then suddenly the motor just quits. This morning it would not spin at all. New motor with less than 20 flights on it. Wiggle the plug and it would start to spin.
Ok I'll spread the pins out on the plug. That seemed to help then trouble again. Got home and decided to re tin the plug. Problem remained. Now I started wiggling the wires from the plug. One wire came off in my hand.
What is happening and perhaps to you too is, when I tinned the plug it got hot enough to unsoldier the wire on the other end of the plug. But the shrink tubing kept it making contact for a while until the wire moved away from the plug blade. I resoldered the wire and now it works great.
You may want to check yours. You will have to cut the shrink tubing away and make a visual inspection to see what you have.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I was kind of forced into the 120 SR motor cause the stock motors were on eternity back order at my lhs and I couldn't have it down for that long so I went for it. Hopefully at least a good temporary fix till I can get a stock replacement. Can anyone direct me to a thread with the cutting dimentions for the 120 SR tail blade? I'll let everyone know how it works.

Hey Hawkerjet, thanks for the tips. This actually happened to me with my msr tail wiring but these seem fine.

I was running a 120 tail motor for several months. I left the blade stock length. That set up is very solid but it is alot of extra weight for the heli. It makes it feel heavy.
I just went back to the stock motor set up but with a cut down 120 blade. I cut it down to just slightly longer than the stock mcpx blade. It works great. It holds just as well as the 120 motor set up did but the heli now flies much lighter. I really like it!

I prefer the ccw main motor for the mcx2, its the same as the stock tail motor but without the boom so its cheaper. Solder the wires at the tail, simple and easy.

Is that motor for the mcx the one labeled "left" or "right"? In other words,
How can you tell it's the ccw motor?

They are labeled on the factory packaging. Also the CCW has Blue and Red wiring. The only downside on the MCX2 motor is you need to have a pinion puller.

It should say CCW Mcx2 main motor on the packaging

I didn't use a pinion puller, a pair of pliers and squeeze till it cracks, it will come off with no damage to the shaft.

Thanks for that advice, worked like a charm. I used to some vice grips and the pinion eventually was so messed up I pulled it right off.
