Hi

Just put a new frame on my Evo due to a crash, put my Hyper straight into the new frame and when I push the bottom of the fan around it seems to be rubbing, can't say I noticed this when I first built the Evo, so will the rubbing go after a few runs and everything beds in, or should I remove the washer from the engine shaft (between the fly wheel and bearing) ?

Or is there something else I have missed.

PS I tightened the fly wheel on the drive shaft before I re fitted, it was still tight.

Thanks
Mike

Did you remember the small rubber o-ring and washer on the start shaft?

Are the tops of the cooling fins rubbing the top of the shroud, or is the edge of the fan rubbing?

I checked the O ring and washer all in place,

It seems that its the edge of the fan rubbing

Could there be some mold flashing (or other debris) inside the shroud? Is it possible that the engine is installed a little crooked? The aluminum grommets that the engine mounting bolts go through could be skewed in the slotted holes in the frames.

Did you replace both sides of the frames together?

There is a pretty big gap between the edge of the fan and the shroud. Something would have to be misaligned pretty badly to make the fan rub.

pull the engine again and can't find the O ring, replaced with a shim and all is free again.

Is the O ring there to only space everything out and wears away with use?

Sometimes it can stretch out and get smooshed into the recess around the bearing in the clutch bell. If it's not there, it probably fell out during assembly/disassembly.

It should be replaced.

Had this happen to me and what I found was the hub unscrewed off the motor just a bit but enough to may the fan rubb, pull the motor and loosen the nut and tighten the hub and locktite the nut.

Hope that helps :D
