I just bought a 3DX500. I have not heard too much about it but it seemed like a good deal and appears very well made.

I have not assembled it yet. The kit I got came with an 890KV motor, an ESC that seems perhaps a bit on the wimpy side (40A continuous with 55A burst). No BEC, a 2200mAh 14.8 volt lipo that feels very heavy but perhaps that's par for the course.

Should I just sell it and get something else, like perhaps the Gaui E550?

Or should I built it but go with a better motor / ESC ?

What I saw about it before I got it looked very enticing but I don't want to get myself into a frustrating nightmare if I can avoid it, or a money pit of upgrades.

Thanks,

The benifit of going with the hurricane 550 is it runs of 3S2p.
Being that you can power it with 2 3S 2100 Mah packs which could be used seperatly for other helis like the Trex450,Sjm400,3dx450,etc...
But if you plan to go with larger helis running 4S packs, including a Trex with a motor that will support 14.8V, stick with it.
I would assume your ESC has a bilt in BEC?
Larger helis run lower kv motors/head speeds.
Lastly, all helis are a money pit for upgrades .. hehe ..
Good things have been said about the 3dx450, I would assume the same quality should be had with the 500.

Well, I am more than likely going to sell the 3DX500 and for now just build the 450 I bought. Then when I want to get something bigger later on I might just go to a nitro / petrol heli instead of a bigger electric.
