Has anybody heard of anyone doing a convert from gasser to electric...

Bernie,

There are days that I think about putting a Spectra-G motor on my Ion-x!

Taking a jerry can of unleaded petrol (with 30-50:1 oil mix) and a pull starter to the field looks like pretty easy and cheap flying.

Cheers,

Yeah I appreciate that, this is not a project for me, Tom. There's a guy up here who wants to do this, so I'm just asking the questions.....

Maybe we can work out a simple swap for my ready-to-fly Ion-x and a battery pack to get him started. Please PM me if he is interested.

Cheers,

Yep .Chuck , seems your Stratus conversion would be the same parts requirement ...Prob a main gear change too ...

depends on wich motor and battery combination you want to try.
i'm going to try a neu 1915 1.5y on 12s at a 9.5:1 ratio.
it should get a head speed around 2000 to 2100 450kv/45 volts.

Tom, why do you want to swap the ION....?

Peter, are you saying the mount Chuck has made will fit straight in to the Spectra?

the part it replaces in the stratus is the same part number as the spectra G. it will fit the stratus, tempest, spectra G, and a fury also but will need a little more "work" to fit the fury.

Ok Chuck, looks like that order might change to 3, mate. I'll be in touch very soon...

Bernie,

I've been interested in getting a Gasser for a while now. I'm tired of seeing Peter have all his Gasser fun all by himself on the Gold Coast. Ideally I would like to keep the Ion and just go out and buy a Spectra-G but I cannot afford to do that right now.

I thought that if your friend has a mint condition Spectra, rather than going to all the trouble of converting it to Electric, he might be interested in my mint condition Ion-x. Just a thought and I'm not in any big hurry to do anything right now.

Cheers,

Tom C

Just a quick update mates,

I almost traded my Ion for Bernies mate's gasser but he changed his mind and sold it while I was on a 2 week holiday (Vancouver, Phoenix, and Las Vegas). Probably has worked out for the best since I would hated to have parted with my Ion-x! Think I'll stick with Electric-only.

Cheers,

Tom C
