View Full Version : Anyone using an Airtonics Stylus w/ theie heli?
Hey gang,
Any one using a Stylus with their heli? I have one and use it with my sailplanes... anyone have experience with it on a heli. I would hate to get another radio just for my helis.

The Stylus is an outstanding heli tx. Alan Szabo Jr used one exclusively for many years for his birds.
Without the 96813 HELI program card it will do any non-eCCPM heli just fine (like a TT Raptor for instance) but to do eCCPM heli's you'll want that program card. The 96800 50-Model Memory card is a good idea to have as well.
Since it's a module-based radio it's a candidate for the XPS 2.4 gHz module as well if you want to go spread spectrum with it.
I've heard that the Stylus is quite a sailplane tx. Do you use the 96803 GLID program card for your sailplanes or just the basic glider functions?
Yea I know about the cards.. have the Glider card for my sailplanes. I have a few full house Thermal Duration gliders (complete with Airlerons, Flaps, etc) and the reason I got the Stylus was that it as definetely THE best radio for all the mixing we do, like full trailing edge droop, reflex etc.
Sure I will be getting the heli card I figured it would probably nescessary. I do have the 50 model card as well since the TX only has 4 memory slots.
As for Spectrum I didnt know they even had a Module for it. Is it made by airtronics?

The only company that's announced a 2.4 gHz module for the Stylus is Xtreme Power Systems, but apparently one of the modules forthcoming by Spektrum, the one for the JR's I believe, may be modifiable to work with a Stylus.
I'm considering sailplanes. What can't I do without the GLID card, using only the standard glider template?
Ohh thats a good question. I never tried the standard glider template. But I will guess that some of the advanced flap/aileron mixing would not be able to be done w/o the glider card. I would think that for just starting out youd be fine with the standard template but if you want to control a full house ship with flaps and be able to have settings for launch, cruise, etc you'd need the glider card.

Would you consider that most of the advanced GLID card functions are tailored to thermal soaring, or are they equally applicable to slope soaring? At this point I have no interest in a thermal ship -- but slope intrigues me.
The only thing that may to slope as well as TD is the control of the full trailing edge. However if the ship does not have flaps and ailerons I think you could get away w/o the glider card.
