well today was a really good day, no wind well very little and a few 5-10 mph gusts. to be honest i was alittle scared to fly out side. but today i learned to adjust for the wind. i was also holding a fairly stable hover about as high as a telephone pole. also played around with ff and backwards flight. tryed idle up it was nice, really changed the heli. but i feel that was just alittle to much for me right now.i just finished my 5th pack of the day out side. i guess soon i will be flying mainly outside, if its to windy i can work on my hover in the garage.

if your not supposed to post stuff like this sorry, im just stoked and wanted to share...

Congratz, outside is way more fun, lots more room.

SWEEEEEEET!

I flew outside for the first time today also! My second pack met with wind that blew my Blade CX2 right back at me but the first one was awsome! After that I hovered in the basment for a pack and I'm stoked. Can't wait to get my T-rex trimmed to fly :smokin:

ya it is. for a few days ive been kind bored just hovering around the garage. thinking about slowing down with heli's. but after flying out side my addiction is back again, and i cant get enough of flying out side..

I too have done quite a bit of garage flying and have come to quickly understand that the flight dynamics of that little space are dramatically different than that of the great outdoors with or without any wind.

My garage is about 20'x20' and standing in the corner, I can feel the draft of the rotor blades hitting my shoulders, which tells me that this little guy must be feeling alot more than I am. I've spent quite a bit of time practising hovering in there with the tail at the 18:00 position, but have been practising at the 12:00 for some time as well. Keeping the helo at no more than 12" high seems to be important because there is simply not enough room in there to react if the backwash decides to send the thing off in an unpredictable direction.

The outside is another story.

The flight dynamics of the outside is very different than a closed area. I find that the helo "wants" to fly more aggressively and believe that the key here is simply space. Give yourself more space which is directionaly proportional to more reaction time.

Ok, ok, I'm not perfect, and over the past few months have become as good as a flyer as I am repairing the thing, but have not yet lost faith. I'm waiting on a new center hub, but the helo flys better now than when I first bought it!

this was my first heli, its a cpp. during my flights today i did notice that the higher i went the easyer it got. i think next time i fly out side im going to get a hover about 12 to 15 feet high, and start learning side hovering. my pro does kick pretty hard when i punch it. i think i am having a issue with my throttle curve. once i get it to hover about a foot off the ground. if i go one more click up on the throttle it wants to go to about 10 feet. it makes landing alittle hard. would messing with the throttle trim on the tx fix this ?

btw ive been flying for about a month and half, but i do atlest 1 pack maybe 2 every night during the week. weekends are spent flying every chance i got. even if it is 3am.

Getting out for the first time is exhilirating. I flew mine one early morning. Just seeing the heli in a 2 foot hover over the grass 15 feet away was thrilling. Then the sweet sensation of forward flight and how the heli gently bobs on a cushion of air. The experience was totally new. Great stuff. I miss it.

Now I am just concerned with doing new things and repairing when needed. When I fly safe and stagnate, it gets boring.

I had planned on getting out Sunday for some FFF. Unfortunately I was playing with idle up and I'm so used to dropping the left stick when it gets squirrely that as you can guess I had a little mishap. I might have frid my BL main motor. I'm not really sure how long it can go without moving with full throttle lol. Anyway I have a ejector pin to try (thanks rebuild) for the main shaft. Perfect timing!

couldnt you just flip the idle up switch back to normal mode then drop the left stick ?

i took my training gear off last night. and man the heli is responsive and jittery. kinda worried about flying outside since it can tip over now. but hell its goona happen sooner or later.

LOL, ya I suppose but I hit the ground before I had a chance to switch anything

First off, congrats on flying!!! It is a ball. And yes, I think posting things like this are cool. Then again, I'm just another poster here...

txflyer: from what I've been seeing with mine, it sounds you are dealing with the quirkiness of the stock Tx & Rx. Also could be the pot on your Tx might be a bit dirty.

ive got the g90 so the pot is turned all the way to the left and the gyro gain on the tx is at about 75% to 80%. tail stays where i want it. i removed my training gear yesterday and from flights in the garage it seems to have resolved its self for some reason. the wind was alittle on the high side today so cant really check how it lands out doors from 15ft up.

double post sorry

it does seem after a few more garage packs that the training gear really changed the heli. it could be just me but my hovering has got really good. my throttle issues also seems to have been cleared up. as i for some reason now i set her down softly.. landing was tricky till i learned it was easyer to just go into a hover then land versus coming down from 10ft slowly with out a hover. im getting mad that yeasterday it was way to windy and now today all i wanted today for my bday is to fly a few packs outside and its raining. also no wind at all.

Been flying outside for a couple of weeks now when the weather permits. It's SOOOOOOOOOO much better. Flew today in a little wind. Very exciting. These things need even MORE attention when there's a cross breeze. Still in one piece though

ya wind is tricky. i got out and flew 5 or 6 packs outside today. messed up my flat bottem blades. trying to get a perfect landing, i landed on uneven ground and my rotor blades kissed the ground. sucked but only bent my main shaft and tore up the corners of the flat bottem blades.. so i installed my mh auto main gear and shaft and a pair of carbon fiber sym blades. its not as loud as the eflite main gear and shaft. also going from flat bottem blades to sym blades. took alittle to get used to.

the wind today was much more then what ive had my pro in. for me the hardest part was taking off and landing in the wind. once its up in the air it wasnt to hard to fly.

To smooth out the throttle take the back cover off the TX and reverse the small metal plate that contacts the throttle "wheel". It will remove the ratchet feel and you will be able to make very fine smooth movements on the stick. It will help enormously.

Doing it outside is always better. Wind will make the heli climb and drop, thats all. Always fly into the wind, never with it at your back. In stronger wind, the heli will climb out of sight pretty fast, if you are flying into the wind, just lower collective (left stick) and you can bring it in. If the wind is at your back, say adios amigo. Its gone.

man i went through this with airplanes. i just fly if the wind is stronger then what i feel comfy with i wont fly past head height. i also dont want my throttle to just be smooth. i like the clicking. on real flight g3.5 if i mess with the throttle trim i can get it set up pretty good. i just need to take the time to set it up with my heli. thanks for the info.. most times in my back yard the wind blows from right to left with the way i stand when i fly
