Hi guys

Had a little niggle...

After a engine out job i did the other day I broke the exahust gasket, I tryed to get away with out replacing it and just hoped the it would seal up once all together.

but guess what it didnt, the heli flew like a dog, not much back pressure to feed the fuel and really poor throt response, also made a nasty sound..

So I call up my local shop looking for a replacement gasket, and they told me that it is better to use a thin layer of apoxy instead I was not to sure as it didnt sound like the right thing to do, but I have given it ago, will go fly tomorrow and see how she goes.

I would be intrested to know what you guys use, past and present

thanks

I would think something like high temp RTV would work better. Just make sure you clean up any oil residue with a water alcohol mix, or whatever that green stuff is. When it dries, but a very thin layer where the gasket would be. I don't have a nitro helicopter to do it on yet, but I know that has worked on my Trucks in the past.

Dont use RTV, if not done correctly it will flake off, get sucked into the engine and snuff the plug at the most inopportune time.

The muffler, if the surfaces are true, should bolt up w/o any gasket or epoxy, I run all of mine with no exhaust gaskets.

You can use epoxy but use a VERY THIN smear.

I use 15 min epoxy and it works just fine. Be cafeful not to get any epoxy in the screw holes b/c it's a pain to get the screws back out. Been there done that:)

A very thin piece of cardboard works just as well as any gasket. Something like a cornflakes box is fine.

I have been using epoxy for 20 years and never a problem.
I have used cheap 5 minute up to JB Weld with the same perfect results every time.
As was mentioned, just a thin film will do.

Also as was mentioned RTV will kill plugs at a bad time.

My first 2 "real" autos were due to this very problem, but it will not happen again!
