You need to use the double sided tape to help isolate the gyro from vibrations of the heli. I have never of heard of anyone mounting a 401 with brackets.

I still use tape BUT/////
I like a ty-wrap with fuel tubing going over mine,, Just to make sure  , (couple of small holes on sides)
A rubber band hooks nice over the sceadu gyro mount
In both cases there is" little -to no "pressure compressing the tape , so there is no ill effect on the gyro.
And I don't have to worry about the tape letting loose :wow2:

Double sided tape is fine. I use the 3m outdoor mounting tape, grey stuff with a red backing thats nearly imune to fuel soaking that eats the foam away on the stock tape leaving a nice adhesive layer on either side.
Its good to give the gyro a quick tug or gentle twist while preflighting for the first flight of the day as landing a heli with a loose gyro is somewhat of a chore (picture Mr Toads Wild Ride)
