I was referring to one on the heli itself at first. You didn't misunderstand me :p

I was actually thinking about putting a killswitch where the 2nd radio switch can mount since I have a Jewel coming, and taping a servo there so that I can kill it by radio if necessary, like in the event of a throttle servo failure or something silly like that.
Is that not a good idea? Or would the Stator Gator make that impossible to hook up?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm about as newb as there is when it comes to gassers :)
Thanks for all the help again!
I'd come visit you guys if I was anywhere reasonably close :) Sounds like a party down there :D

lperagallo, I'll definately holler at you if I need help with the GV-1.
I'm usually really good with setting up radios. I don't know why, it's just my thing I suppose.

Chris, do you guys have those Z-RC insulators? I'm thinking about ordering one from Rick's but if you guys have them I'd just as soon get it from you :)
I searched on the site but I only found "2047 alum insulator blck"

2047 is the ZRC aluminum insulator block, however I just sold my last one in stock on Saturday....I will be ordering more but if you need one quickly, go ahead and orer from Rick's, He'll take care of you.

As far as the kill switch, I think it's totally unnecessary to have one operate on a separate servo, that's what the throttle servo is for!! If the throttle servo fails (goes dead) then the spring on the throttle linkage on the carb should pull it closed. You can build in a lot of redundancy if you feel the need, but where does it end????

Alright, no kill switch for me. LOL you talked me out of it.
I'll order an insulator from Rick's tonight. Hopefully I can have this thing fired up by the end of this week.
Hahaha... what color should I get?
Should I find a better air filter also? Or is the stock one alright? I'd get the pipe but I'm starting to run out of $$ to spend on big stuff like that.

Ordered a purple one if anybody cares :p
I had to have a little bling bling. lol
You guys should start offering the helis with different color options :)

You mean like different landing gear colors, fan shroud colors, painted canopies and fins by Air F/X?

:D :D

The stock filter works just fine, if a little restrictive. The other alternative is a velocity stack.

I was thinking more like ... different bellcrank colors and what not.
Not that I'd buy them or anything, it'd just be neato :)

Velocity stack = no filter, right?
I guess it couldn't do that much damage... my r50 doesn't have a filter on it and it's still so tight my starter has trouble after 2 gallons.
If I need more power I'll worry about it then. I've got a Jewel on order and one of the Z-RC insulators from Rick's. After that, all that's left is the GV-1 and stator gator.

Rccardude04:

"The Jewel of Raja" is on the way!

I put two generators with remote charge indicator LEDS along with one Bergen mount in the mail today for you and Martin. Look for it towards the end of the week and enjoy your freedom from on-board battery worries from now onwards!

Thanks!
I may never have to charge a receiver pack again :p

Got my Z-RC insulator on ... My stock one was kinda nasty even though I haven't even started it. It might be pshychological, but I could swear it's twisted a bit.
The workmanship is very nice also. Screws fit into it better than they did the stock piece. Why these aren't a stock piece I will probably never know...

Did you shorten the bolts that hold the carb to the insulator block?? If not, they can contact the inner teflon gasket, causing an air leak.....

Yes make sure you check that. I just used a couple of extra washers on the bolts to take up that extra length. I'm using the stock aircleaner box with built in choke by the way.

Yeah they were about a thread and a half too long so I took off probably 4 or 5. I was super scientific in my bolt cutting, lol.
I actually read the instructions for once too :D lol

A little redundancy seeing as how I posted this in the "who wants to join the on-board power club" thread, but where are most people mounting the AC-DC converter? I found a spot, but then the wires to the regulator aren't quite long enough.

Also... has anybody else had the problem of the popcicle stick hitting the screws that hold the generator mount on? I'm only getting about +3 pitch now because it hits. I was getting +9.

Alright, I went ahead and re-drilled/tapped the mount through the frame so that the rearmost screw is located farther upwards. Not sure how this got past you guys but apparently it did :D

As for mounting, I got it figured out. Stacked 2 pieces of .040 styrene on top of each other with tape between, taped it to the frame underneath the aileron servo/linkage on the left side and ziptied the whole thing twice. I don't think it's going anywhere :)
Got the regulator mounted up underneath the battery tray just underneath my receiver battery.
Lookin' good sitting there!
You'd think it was something from an alien movie with all the wires everywhere... lol.

Eric,

All you needed to do was replace the shoulder screw with a button head screw and it clears the popsicle sticks. No need to re-drill, but I had the same problem.

That was my same exact suggestion to Lou. Just for my own clarity, is this screw that you are replacing supplied with the mount to install it, or is it an existing screw on the heli already? Chris is supposed to be sending me some more mounts (maybe they are already on the way), and just curious if I should be asking him to modify the included hardware (maybe supply a button head screw) for this purpose? The feedback you guys give is what makes the mount better and better.

Thanks,

Raja,

No, it was a spare I had. It was not included in the kit.

What would be even better is if we could somehow countersink it.
Button head screws are a good idea though. I might have to try that on the front one. The back one clears by a mile and a half now though.
Countersunk holes/screws would be much better for the ones that hold the mount to the electric outrunner motor though. Then you could even make the mount shorter because we could slide the coupler farther onto the electric motor.
