Inner holes as a general rule will give better resolution with any FBL system. That said the choice is yours but I can say both vbar and uBeast users are reporting the outer holes should NOT be used, inner holes are the best bet so far.

What do you mean by "will give you better resolution"

Sorry for the stupid question.

I'm really sorry an Ice ESC doesn't fit at the front of the heli, as the stock ESC does. I don't like how the Ice looks when installed at the side of the frame.

David

I hate to see anything outside of the heli also, if you are using the CC ice 75 or 80 they have 4 little plastic ear that you can cut and put it inside the frame, is a tight fit but it goes in without touching the motor and if you are using a separate BEC you can put it under the battery tray.

Fantastic write-up! Makes me want to go out and get one. You took some great pics to follow along with. Looks like a piece of cake! :)

I'm almost about to press the button on one of these. Before i do, i have alot of spares from my 500 ESP. Is there anything i can keep for this heli? Or just sell it all?
ie main shafts, Feather shafts, Tail hubs....
Cheers

Roger,

I got an Ice75 but haven't installed it yet. In a preliminary look up, I don't see a way to install it inside the frames. Now that the 500EFL Pro has a cross member at the front, it's impossible to put it there.

Have you installed one in a 500 Pro? Can you take pictures?

Thanks.

David

Some parts I know are common:

1. Torque Tube
2. Boom
3. Boom Supports
4. Carbon Fins
5. Spindle

I'm sure there have to be more.

Im having a bloody headache trying to get my electrics placed.. its also my OCD for a neat install thats making it worse!

Its not actually practical to put the esc where its meant to go (under battery tray) as the cross hatch is not a good mating surface.. it doesnt give slots for velocro but a stupid hole for zip ties when you shouldn't use them.. also with the way its directed (with lipo connector up top) it gives no room for the lipo wires when the cano is on, unless you have to lipo way forward of cog which is again shit.. then if you put the lipo the other way round, you need a patch cable and you cant get the wires connected to the motor.. Finally if you do have it zip tied to the tray.. the battery straps clamping down hard wont do it any good as one end sits over the capacitors.. FFS!!!

You had asked about the Gens Ace packs balancing, here is the exact location my 2600 needs to be for perfect CofG. My ESC is only slightly forward from the center of the battery tray. Its only about 1cm down from the top of the battery tray. The 2600 weighs 425 grams - the site listing is wrong for the weight.

If you put the esc caps forward, with the caps lining up with the very end of the tray it works out ok. The manual is backwards IMO. you can see they show the caps facing forward but the battery wires facing back, even if you installed it caps in the rear the wires on the esc are way too short on the battery side, the manual shows about double the actual length. The front strap will then rest 100% on the heat sink and the rear strap you can use the hole through the plastic with zero obstructions.

isnt it supposed to be mounted on the outside so air can hit it and help with cooling?

However one question.. is it safe to strap down the esc that hard? I've never strapped down an esc with major pressure and doing it this way, will use more pressure to make sure the lipo dont move?

The case on that ESC is very solid, strapping around it wont hurt it, the only vulnerable part is the caps at the end.

I have about 20 hours on my 500 and the ESC has never overheated under the battery tray, including flights with air tepid over 40c

Is the recommended location per the manual, but after you spend so much money upgrading the ESC you want to do everything possible to protect it from a crash, besides there is a lot of air running thru the canopy inside the heli. I have my 250,450,500,550 and my 700E all with the ESC inside the frame with NO heating problems

I was suprised that the battery came in LIGHTER that listed too. I bought the 3300's also and they came in nearly 2 oz heavier than listed:( Oh well if anyone want to buy 2 of the 6s 2600's

We have opposite views on these, I am quite happy they are lighter and feel the balance is great. If I had the spare $$$ I would buy them from you and would advise anyone looking for an awesome pack to check these out. I have had nothing but great results with Gens Ace ranging from a 450 size up to a 90 700e.
Why are you so tail heavy these wont balance? Could it be the CF/aluminum boom I used is that much lighter? I neglected to weigh it before installation but take note it is still an aluminum boom simply wrapped with CF.

I don't fly with a canopy on smaller electrics (I didn't even install canopy posts). Yes these gens ace batteries are excellent though.

I'm also using a Gens Ace 2600 pack with the stock ESC mounted as given in the manual, and the CG is dead on.

Awesome pack. I too have the 3300's for the 600 Pro.

Flight reports guys??????

I have flown mine 8 times. Yes, I'm enjoying it that much that I keep track of the flights.

Feels very locked. Flies on rails. I'm using the BeastX. The rest is stock from the super combo.

Response is stronger and faster than the ESP. Of course, it's quieter too.

I don't like the fact the frame is narrower, meaning the installation of CC ESC's a pain if you want to install it inside the frame.

I don't like where the motor wires are located if you keep them concealed. The problem is you can't disconnect the motor easily without first removing the battery tray. This doesn't bother me now because I've learned a trick from a HF guy, which consist of installing a screw driver or similar tool across the main and autorotation gears to keep the rotor head from moving if the ESC ever activates unintentionally,

I love the new frames, the servos installation without using the taps, and the stiffness of the battery tray. The dual canopy post installation is nice too.

And the simplified and fast assembly is superb!

David

FYI, I flew the ESP with similar gear (motor, servos and BeastX)

Can't thank you enough rotaryguy :noteworthy

I just went thru every single photo again and am looking forward more than ever to put mine together ;)

I will be doing a Beastx with one remote receiver so I get to keep it neat and tidy as well

smaze17, do you feel comfortable merely using a satellite rx on a 500 size heli? I've been a bit nervous about it. I think I'm going to use a full size rx with satellite to be safe. Am I being too over cautious?

No you are certainly not being overcautious...it's actually a very good decision. I'm still debating this but I think I will go with just one remote. I know most guys advise against this but I have never had a single problem with running a single sat on 500 size machines.

I truly wish the boys at Microbeast would incorporate dual satellite functionality into the unit but it's pretty obvious that it's not that important to them.

Having said that I will probably run just one remote ;)
