Hi, I just finished my R90SE and decided to spool it up in the back yard before taking it to the field.
As it spool up and the rotor gets to a considerable speed it start making a high pitched noise, hard to describe, but if I have to compare it to anything I would say like a car alarm siren.
It's absolutely horrible, I guess it is some sort of slipping somewhere but I have no idea where to start looking for it. Should I take the engine off and check the clutch?
The funny thing is that it doesn't do it from the beginning of the spool only when it's at take off speed :dontknow :dontknow :dontknow .
Suggestion anyone :?:

Never mind, after dropping the engine and checking everything I found out the source of the noise.
I pooled up again and realized that it came from the main blades, it happened that the holographic tape I put on the tips was coming unglued at the leading edge making that howling noise.

thats why you're supposed to make the tape long enough to go AROUND the leading edge instead
of the way you've done it.

yep, but the idea is to have it only on the top to help with orientation, so I can see if I'm upside down. It works for V blades!. If I have problems again I'll try to go and pass the leading edge a little on the down side.

I think the sticker is inside the blade or something for Vs.

I thought that was a possibility, we'll see how it goes on the hover, worse case scenario I'll peel them off.

If you wrap the tape about 1/4 inch (6mm) around the leading edge you will never see it in the air but it will prevent the wind from lifting the edge.
Also at least wipe the oil off of your blades after every flight because the fuel residue on the blades will soften the adhesive on the film.

You may try to put them on the tops just past the hump of the leading edge. This way they are not exposed to the majority of the wind force. I did this with my carbons and so far after about 6 flights, the stickers are still intact.

Thanks for all the ideas, I think I should worry more about how to keep intact all the rest of the heli before worrying about the stickers :arggg:

The VBlades stickers are under the finish.
Sorry to see her in such shape.

Ouch! Sorry about your crash. On the bright side though, your stickers stayed on. :)

She is already looking a bit better.
All the main frame is up with the engine in, new tank, just waiting on a new main gear.
The head is waiting for a washout link, rotor grip pin, one paddle and off course blades. The flybar rod I managed to straighten (but I'll order a couple anyway).
And I'll also need tail boom and shaft, that's it.
I went to the field today and found a couple of bits that went AWOL on the crash and couldn't find that same day (it's a lot easier to search with dry eyes :bawl ).
Well, that's the damage report.

Hi ferincr,
I hope this is some form of comfort. I'm, a scale flyer not into 3d, despite being careful in flying for 3yrs now, i've had 2 crashes due to engine and servo issues. So it's not always the pilot.

Oh, believe me, all my crashes are due to pilot, or better said the lack of it.

Cheer up mate, don't be so hard on yourself.
You would know better, but dont we all go through the learning curve! Hard but true.
