Ok so I finally get time to take the Mini out for a hover to check for problems. I'm having a few and hopefully its not too hard for you guys to figure out.

Normal flight mode only right now, no Idle ups:

1) Tail moves fast when I give left rudder but too slow when I give right rudder. Something goofy with my DX7 settings? (401/ jr3400g)
2) Motor (Medusa 28-32-3400) with heatsink gets burning hot when I just hover for a few / 5 minutes. It scalded my finger. Way too hot. 13T pinion as recomended. All stock airholes cut in the canopy.
3) Align Esc and 2170 FP battery getting very hot also. A big difference in temp over the rex450, and a shorter hover time for sure. Align 35x Esc is programmed as follows:

No Brakes
Mid timing
Mid Battery cutoff
Heli Soft start/ no governor
Fast throttle response

Bird has no problem lifting off the ground or staying in the air. Almost hovers hands off. Nice level swash at 0 pitch and servo arms at 90 as well at 0 pitch.

So I'm not sure what is going on. Any ideas?

Thanks guys as I'm a bit lost on this bird. :dontknow

Hi kdii02

I had the same problems but already made some progression on fighting temperature, really love this heli:

Thanks Eric. I have most of the issues fixed now. I goofed on the mechanical center of the tail out of HH mode and went back and adjusted the tail servo on the boom. I also had to add shims in the tail grips to remove the excess slop. Re balanced the main blades too. That took care of the vibrations. I flipped over the ESC in the front frame and trimmed out the frame so that the heatsink now protrudes out of the hole in the bottom of the canopy for cooling. I also cut a large teardrop shaped hole in the windsheild to aid in battery and motor cooling. I'm now getting 10-13 minute hovers and only the motor gets hot if I don't move the heli around in a hover. the guys at the field saturday were impressed with the flight times I was getting. I chalked it up to the repairs and the new FPevo 25's! 2170's -Kyle

Great to hear it's flying that well!
Good tip on the ESC btw still got it on the inside of the frame.
I am going to mount it the same.
Thanks

I'll see if I can post some pics of my mod tonite for you. Its really easy though. Just cut the 2 square holes in the bottom of the canopy if you havent already and trim out the X brace that sits under your esc, flip your esc over and wire tie it in. If you do it correctly you will see the ESC heat sink lined up at the hole in the bottom of the canopy looking like thats how it was meant to be. I did this mod out at the flying field Sunday with a pair of side cutters and an exacto knife. My Esc was cutting out due to heat prior to this as the temps were pretty hot outside. After the quick mod I flew the rest of the day about 6 more flights in a row with no issues.

***One thing I should mention is that I am running the Align 35x Esc so I'm not sure this mod will work with all ESC's. It depends on the size. Just measure your Heat sink if you are not using the Align esc before you hack up the frame! When you trim out the frame cross member your Heatsink should fit right between the frame rails. Probably this will work for most esc of this size but I am only familiar with the Align. I think the TT one is similar in design.
