Recently a fellow helifreak (Rebuild Aka: Lardfly) was kind enough to send me a ejector pin to try as a main shaft. Rebuild told me some guys are using them with good results. Well he was certainly correct. I use the microheli autorotation main gear and a CNC head so, all I had to do was cut it to length, grind some flats and give it a whirl.
I can say without a doubt this "pin" has been the smoothest, straightest and toughest main shaft I have ever used. I have crash at least three times with this shaft hard enough to waste the microheli hardened or stock mains. I've replaced over 12 main shafts on my CPP do to minor crashes.
We all know how little it takes to bend a main or spindle (feathering shaft). If you have a non stock gear and a CNC head or drill press to make the non shearing "shearing pin" hole definately give the ejector pins a whirl. I forgot to ask Rebuild how much the pin was but, so far its worth $24 to me. I bet I have a few more crashes before I have to replace it. At $8 a crash savings this thing is paying off in spades. I still have absolutely zero head wobble with the ejector pin. Thanks Rebuild!!

You heard it here first folks! If Buzzkill can't bend it, it's got to be "Damn" good! :WOW Did you leave the shoulder on the end to use instead of a collar? Those things are only like 4 bucks and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can get two main shafts out of each one. Glad it's working good for ya. :glasses2:

Thanks again Rebuild. Happy to be the crash tester (kinda of). Yes I left the collar on, eleminates the little grub screws and works fine. Yep two shafts from each pin. Now what do I do with the 4 mains I have in the wrappers? lol.

well when i started posting about erods they were for the hdx300,i didnt start at the freak because all of you seemed to hate it.now im seeing erod posts everywhere.my source at plastixs told me they have had to stock up on them lol.some of the other guys are flying their hdx300s now and starting to do 3d manuevers.ive also made a 3mm tail conversion for the hdx300. :D

buzz the v2 head is incredible with these shafts

where exactly do you get these shafts........I've been looking for something to make a main shaft for my hdx300........this seems to be it...
but I'm not sure what this "ejector pin" is..what's it to, or where to get it........but I want it!
clue us clueless people in.....please..

you want pe7-03l250 1 rod makes 2 shafts
for 2mm tail you want pe7-02l200 makes 3-4 tailshafts.
to drill the main shaft you need carbide drills

get these resharpened 10 packs work great.
there is an hdx300 thread on rcgroups in the micro section

Thanks Aristo.........I found the rcg thread.........the link and I already ordered them.......
once I get them I hope to be able to fly this bird without fearing the bent shaft syndrome..

aristo.......I modified my tail pulley with a one way bearing to eliminate the set screw deal on it.....so now I just slide it onto the main shaft ...while the main shaft is spun by the main gear it locks up the pulley and drives the tail........
that being said.......and from what I understand, the erods come with a shoulder on one end....I was thinking of using that shoulder to hold the main gear and get rid of the inner bearing sleeve and the set screws that tweek it........
my question is do you know of a place to get a one way bearing that will press into the main gear and have a 3mm inside measurement.....
Just thought I'd ask you seeing as you seem to have a handle on this PITA hdx300
I beleive I am looking for a 3x8x6mm oneway.....

ill look around for you pt,i bought this heli used just to try and fix its problems as so many had wanted to enjoy it,but couldnt.
ill post a list of my mods.
i hated the landing struts used 3.40 heli max instead.
erod shafts-number one mod to get it right.
trex feathering spacer in the 40t tail drive gives perfect belt spacing
double set screws in that 40t they wont back out.(we use this trick at work on 32 ton molds)
i didnt like the hdx main so i used a hummingbird pro main and one way(***** to drill a 1mm shaft hole, but i do it by hand)i chose it because they are very true and very strong.stock does work fine.
i also made a battery mount using the trex plate and 2 thin alu risers.makes the cg higher and balances soooo much easier.
i made new tailplates and my tail is now 3mm and unreal strong.
park400 4200kv on 10 tooth.my headspeed is 3000 tail is 10900.
the only mods needed are the shafts trex spacer and double setscrews the others were just personal choices.
how does it fly?very smooth and very very responsive.its almost as good as my trexs.if this works ill add some pics.

cool....the humming bird main gear/oneway looks like the trick.....I take it you need to drill a hole for a jesus screw with that gear/oneway?....so it too uses a bearing collar?
hmmmm......
I'm wondering if the microheli main/oneway combo also uses a collar.....anyone know or does the oneway just slide onto the main shaft?....
aristo,
I used to use double set screws on the pulley but it became a PITA when changing main shafts all the time.......so I drilled it out and used a one way on that.....I too got the shogun V1 tail for it ....but I like the 3mm mod you did to it.......I was thinking of going the other route at one time, and mod'ing a trex tail for it.....but found the V1 seemed to not bend shafts....I've ordered the 2mm erod for V1 tail for now.....I'll keep an eye out for your side plates if you decide to make a few available...

I bent one tonight, very slightly. Was playing with idle up mode again in a really tight space. Had my first "chicken dance". Ejector pin held up suprisingly well. Very little wobble after a good 10 sec chicken dance. Probably the same amount of wobble I get from a new stock or microheli main shaft. These babies are tough.

got my ejector pins and drills.........just whipped up a couple of shafts and will install one tonight...
I also picked up a microheli main with one way bearing....it doesn't need a sleeve .....I'm using the end cap of the epin to hold that and my mod'ed tail pulley.......so no flats needed for any set screws on the lower end.......just a flat for the upper collar ........
(I'll post a couple of pics of my mod's as I swap out my shaft so if anyone else is interested in my belt pulley mod.
can't wait to test it out after work tomorrow.....
thanks for you help aristo.....

here is the picture of the mod I did on the tail pulley.....the one on the left has the bearing installed.......the one on the right is one drilled out for a bearing....
the second picture is of my heli with the Microheli main gear/tail pulley on an E-rod shaft.....note the head of the e-rod under the MH gear...
with this set up I have no set screws or collars on the lower gear setup...
just slide them onto the shaft and go.....
