Ive got a ac/dc adapter that plugs into the wall and the output is with a cigarette lighter plug.

heres the specs

IPV GmbH
Output: 12 vdc @ 5.8 amps
Input: 100-120Vac
50/60 Hz 1.8A

I want to power up my triton jr charger with that adapter.

Also is is ok to plug this charger into a cigarette lighter in the car while the car is running?

Thanks
Derik

My opinion .... NO and NO. I'd say the only way to use the car is to use heavy jumpers clips and grab right to the battery terminals. Even then you probably want the car running and a fuse in the circuit to be safe. Car batteries are made for burst current (turning the starter motor). Boat troller batteries (deep cycle) are made for continuous current draw .... or wheel chair batteries. If you have a hybrid car ... then maybe it has the right stuff. The wiring in most cars is crap. That charger for the wall is for things like a cell phone charger that do not draw current like a LiPo charger would. Get a good 12 volt supply for your charger at home. For the field get a marine troller motor battery.

The first 2 on that page are very good ones. I use the 25 amp one and it has been very good to me so far, even under heavy use.

Lots of people use the power supply out of an old PC. There's one very easy mod if you choose to go that way. Nice clean power for free.

thanks for the link mudbogger!!

Spork what would be that little mod for the Pc power supply?

The mod is simply to put a 10 ohm, 10 watt resistor between ground and +5 volts. This load will drive the +12V side to put out full voltage. Mudbogger's link is a good resource.

Around here it's easy to get your hands on PC power supplies for free, and they do a great job for this purpose.
