I'm not sure in winXp firewall would get in the way but it's possible and easy to disable. If McAffee is running a software firewall, then definitely it could be causing the problem. I'd try disabling both then trying grc.com to see if you got the ports opened. You can always 'poke holes' in the software firewalls once you find the culprit.
