Unfortunately Espritmodels sent me an Air DX7 not the Heli. I got ahold of them talked to the owner ZB, rude little bastard. When I selected anHeli DX7 on their site it gets switched to an Air in my cart. I should have caught that. Also I got the AR6100 and Transmitter only. It came without the RX battery and the switch. In my excitement, I screwed myself. Took them a week to get it to me when I paid $45 for next day air. Just a word of warning, watch what you order and even more important I should have asked how the company was from fellow Helifreaks. Lesson learned.

Looks like I'm stuck with the airplane DX7. Anyone know if its ok with a heli?

I don't think there's much difference. You can pull the case open and flip the piece dragging on the pitch stick to get rid of the clicking... I think functionally they're pretty close though. I'm actually setting my heli radio up to fly a foamy biplane right now. I think other than the throttle/pitch stick it's just going to have different labels by the switchs. If you're taking time to read them while flying, you've got bigger problems! ;-)

Same transmitter, switch placement is different. Like anubis said , you can physically remove the throttle detent and the 2 switches around to make it the exact same as the heli version.

There is no reason why you should compromise with a radio. It will be with you for a long time. If you are not happy, return it. If you don't care to return it or can't, sell it and get a correct one from somebody else. Lightflightrc.com is ok. Dave sells them separate.

I got it to work tonight with the AR6100. I'll keep it but I wont buy anything else from Espitmodels. That being said (again) my bird seems a LOT less sensitive. Anyway I can increase it? I used Gino's draft from another post. Maybe I should move the linkage all the way out on the servo arms?

how hard was it to set up buzzkill ? getting a new radio set up correctly is one of the main reasons holding me back from getting a dx7.

It wasn't that hard IMO. A little bit of a pain in the ass at first. What channels are what, what if anything needs to be reversed and all that. After figuring out where to plug everything in on the AR6100 it got a lot easier. The DX7 has easy to understand intuitive menus. I still haven't figured out the whole Gyro Gain thing. That can wait until tomorrow. I really liked being able to adjust the gain with the knob on the Stock TX. I'm sure the DX7 has that capability (manual and automatic) Gyro sensing but, I didn't get that far. Sub-trim allowed me to finally get all three servo arms level.

Hardest part for myself, was understanding what the functions actually did, how they affected flight and the other functions. For example: I wasn't getting enough head speed for my style (if noob can be associated with style) so I set the normal throttle curve to give me a higher head speed quicker while reducing the pitch curve respectively to negate pop-ups. This had to be done with try and fly techniques I mastered during my "see how many parts I can buy" first week with the CPP

Several features of the DX7 make setting it up Say-Wheat!! I think the DX6 is very similar. I used a fellow freaks input to get the basics and adjusted to taste.
No more dangle antenna !!! Gotta love that. Shaved 2.5g in weight with the 6100 too.

If you get a new radio drop me a line I'll be happy to help if I can.

Personally, I think the DX7 vs. stock TX isn't even comparable, other than they both will let you fly. Definitely worth the initial frustration.

kool will do man. i was at my lhs and a guy there bought a dx-7, the heli guy i go to told him that setting up the ccpm is really tricky or something to that nature.

belive me i know that going to better radio is always awsome. learned that with my rc10t4 went from crappy am to futaba 3pm.

Under [SWASH MIX] increase Aileron and Elevator mix max allowable without the servos buzzing.

Under [D/R & EXP] Select Aileron or elevator. Then move down to EXP. Put (-) value expo. Negative makes the center of movement more sensitive. Positive makes it less sensitive. Either way, your max throw won't be affected. I prefer to disenthisize the cyclic. Leave D/R 100%.

You can check the effect through the Servo monitor view. Work the cyclics and see how much throw you get near midstick. In your case, it should increase.

Hey Buzzkill... I don't personally like using the DX7 Gyro setup, and ended up using Gear>Gear instead of Gear>Gyro in the initial setup.

Doing it this way allows you to turn heading hold on and off using the gear switch. The First Gear is the place on the receiver (You don't have the AUX2, because you have a 6 channel). The second Gear is telling the radio to use the Gear switch to change the settings. You could also use the Aux2 switch if you prefer.

If you use the Gear>Gyro settings, the gyro is off at 50 and higher holding power when you move away from 50. 0 would be a strong hold with heading hold off, and 100 would be strong with heading hold on. You can have two gyro settings, but they'll be attached to Normal, Stunt 1 and Stunt 2.

If you use the GEAR option, the setup is in the endpoint adjustment, and it'll go from -100 to 100 with 0 being off... -100 is full power heading hold off, and 100 is full power heading hold on. It may actually go beyond 100, like say 150, but I can't remember. Either way, same idea different number. Here again, you have two settings, only this time they are attached to the switch you set in initial setup. I prefer this, because I want manual control of when I turn heading hold on and off.

Let me know if you need more info.

I believe Gear and Aux2 are under different names on the Airplane version, but the idea is the same. To find out what switch you're adjusting, simply read the label on the front of the radio.

I too was mistakenly sent a DX7 Air instead of DX7 Heli. I ordered it via phone from CheifAircraft. I was so excited that they had the DX7 instock without servos (looked everywhere) that I forgot to tell them to send me the Heli version. The item is now on a UPS truck awaiting its arrival to my home.

I know i have options. 1.) I can return it; 2.) I can sell it; or 3.) keep it.

Say if i were to keep it, is it possible to change the switch assignments through the electronic interface to match the heli version?

Please advise.

UPDATE:
Hobby Central in San Diego allowed me to trade my air version for one of their heli versions -- even if didnt buy it there. These guys saved me alot of drama. For this reason, I truely believe HOBBY CENTRAL IS THE BEST HOBBY SHOP IN SAN DIEGO!

Hey guys! Just picked up my Heli DX7 today. I am sure I'll be back to this thread as soon as my AR6100 arrives. Now that I have the radio the wait for the reciever is killing me. Well I got the AR7000, servos, battery, etc with my DX7. Just want to know if any of this stuff is worth keeping around or should I sell it?

i may be wrong but i think the servos that came with it are way to big for even a rex450. i would think if your staying in the mini family of helis id sell atlest the servos

Keep the Ar7000 for a bigger aircraft later on. We will all go big some day.

ok. I plan on getting a Trex 450 in a month or three. Would the AR7000 be any good in that or would the preferd set up be a smaller Reciever. What kind of reliable range are you guys getting with your DX7/AR6100 setups?

I use the AR 6100. The range I get is further thanI can tell what way the bird is pointing by site. Another words, the range is further than I'll ever use on a Helicopter. The AR6100 weight is great. It's super light, super small and works awesome. The AR7000 is better, but if Fineless use the AR6100 then its ok by me!
