I like experimenting and modifying just about anything.
Has anyone tried the 550+ on 5S with the new 8T pinion avilable at Heli-World? I believe someone had told me before they had. Coolice perhaps? You're in U.K. and had access to the 8T for a while now. My quick calcs say 2000 or so at 18.5 v,8T, 90% eff. Cooling may be an issue.

Hey,

My friend has the 550+ running an 11 tooth pinion on a 4s setup and that goes very well. 3D's nicely to with a lot of power for such a low voltage setup, has vene got me thinking as a cheaper alternative to running 6s.

According to the calculator on Swift-Tunings web site to reach 2000rpm you will need to run a 9 tooth pinion with the 550+ motor & 5s.
At 90% efficiency the head should be running roughly 2295rpm, but we know this will be a little less in reality.

I would be very careful if seriously considering this as the 550+ does not mention 5s in it's battery specs & it may cause you problems with warrentys etc.
The specifications say "For use with upto 4s" and so going above is probably not advisable.

Unfortunately I have not tried this combination you are considering, although a 5s setup would be a good compromise between cost & performance.
The 8 tooth pinion was originally made for CenturyUK's 3D Xtra motor, which had a high Kv rating (1530 I think) but we soon found out going to the 9T one made a difference to the models performance.

The other thing with going down to an 8T pinion with lots of power is the less tooth contact area you have between main gear and pinion, you could then start stripping gears.

At the moment I'm trying to think of the words I need to say to my sponsors to try the new 600+ motor, as I have had a go with Adam Turners model and it's more powerful than my 600 equipped machine.
I need more power!

Coolice, are you running the older 600 not the 600+?

Hey,

Yes, I am still running the older 600 Outrunner motor.
It is still a great little motor with lots of power, but I feel as the new one is a higher Kv the need to them run a lower pinion allows the motor to generate more torque.

At present I am running 53cm main blades, I may switch to 55's and drop the pinion slightly to compensate. This will liven things up a tad more and give the auto's even more reserve to.

Coolice, The 600+ is very torquey. I run it with 4S, 11T, 520 mm stock blades. Not a powerhouse but will loop/roll/inverted. I put the 5S in the same setup and hope I don't come anywhere close to my head with it. I run it 5 minutes on the 5S moderate 3D,FFF, heavy climbouts.Screams. I don't think the 600+ is really effecient on 4S. I have gotten a 550+ to use my 4S packs with. I shall be getting either another 5S Maxamps.com 4000mah or a 6S pack from the same.. I have run the 600+ on 4S,10T and 550's but need great collective mgmt. I have also run the 600+ on 5S,10T and 550's . Much lower headspeed.
600+,Rotortech 515 carbons,11T and 5S performs quite well and very hard to bog.
